Minimum Qualifications

• Master's Degree in Physics or a closely related physical science discipline with a minimum of eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Physics.
• Previous college-level teaching experience preferred.
• Demonstrated excellence in classroom instruction and student engagement.
• Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Experience utilizing learning management systems (LMS) and instructional technology preferred.
• Commitment to student success, academic integrity, and excellence in higher education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience teaching General Physics (PHY 101) at the collegiate level.
• Community college, university, or allied health education experience.
• Experience teaching physics concepts applicable to healthcare professions.
• Knowledge of accreditation standards and higher education best practices.
• Ability to collaborate with faculty across interdisciplinary healthcare programs.
• Experience incorporating laboratory demonstrations and applied scientific problem-solving into instruction.

Position Summary

Southeastern Health and Wellness Institute (SEHWI) is seeking an engaging and student-centered Physics Instructor to teach General Physics (PHY 101) within the Associate of Applied Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography (AADMS) Program. This position will also support future associate degree and allied health academic offerings as the institution expands its degree-granting initiatives.

The Physics Instructor will provide rigorous, evidence-based instruction introducing students to the fundamental principles of physics while emphasizing real-world applications within diagnostic medical imaging and healthcare. Students will develop scientific reasoning, quantitative problem-solving skills, and an understanding of physical laws governing energy, motion, sound, electricity, magnetism, and wave propagation.

The instructor will maintain compliance with institutional policies, South Carolina Commission on Higher Education (SC CHE) requirements, Council on Occupational Education (COE) standards, and future programmatic accreditation expectations, including those established by CAAHEP where applicable.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach General Physics (PHY 101) utilizing the approved institutional syllabus.
• Deliver engaging, evidence-based classroom instruction that promotes academic excellence and student success.
• Develop lessons emphasizing:
• Scientific measurement and the International System (SI)
• Mathematical problem-solving in physics
• Motion and kinematics
• Newton's Laws of Motion
• Work, energy, and power
• Momentum and conservation principles
• Fluid mechanics and pressure
• Heat and thermodynamics
• Sound waves and acoustics
• Electricity and magnetism
• Light, optics, and wave behavior
• Basic modern physics concepts
• Applications of physics within diagnostic medical sonography and healthcare technologies
• Maintain accurate attendance, grading, and academic records.
• Evaluate student learning through examinations, quizzes, laboratory activities, homework assignments, presentations, and classroom participation.
• Provide timely and meaningful academic feedback.
• Maintain scheduled office hours and provide academic support to promote student success.
• Participate in curriculum review, assessment, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with allied health faculty to integrate physics concepts applicable to medical imaging and patient care.
• Submit grades and required academic documentation within institutional deadlines.
• Participate in faculty meetings, institutional professional development, accreditation activities, and assessment initiatives as requested.
• Maintain compliance with all institutional academic policies.
• Foster an inclusive, respectful, and professional learning environment.

Instructional Responsibilities

The Physics Instructor will be expected to:

• Prepare organized weekly lesson plans.
• Maintain course materials within the institutional Learning Management System (LMS).
• Utilize demonstrations, laboratory exercises, simulations, and applied learning activities when appropriate.
• Grade assignments and examinations promptly.
• Monitor student academic progress and communicate concerns proactively.
• Encourage scientific inquiry, quantitative reasoning, and evidence-based decision-making.
• Integrate technology and interactive instructional strategies into classroom instruction.
• Relate physics principles to diagnostic medical sonography, medical imaging, and healthcare applications.
• Support institutional retention and student success initiatives.
• Maintain regular communication with the Program Director and Administration.
