Azure SysOps Architect

Location: Remote (Central Time Zone, 8 AM – 5 PM)
Engagement: Contract-to-Hire

Overview

We are seeking an Azure SysOps Architect to lead the design, implementation, and operation of secure, scalable Azure infrastructure. This is a senior, hands-on architect role for someone who takes independent initiative and drives technical direction rather than waiting to be told what to build. The ideal candidate sits at the intersection of Azure security, infrastructure, and DevOps.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect, implement, and operate Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Bicep)
• Design secure Azure platform and application landing zones, including network architecture (subnet design, CIDR planning, hub-and-spoke topology)
• Ensure security, scalability, and high availability across infrastructure platforms
• Build and deploy containerized workloads; manage scaling, upgrades, and patching
• Drive automation of monitoring, alerting, remediation, patching, and security hardening
• Standardize environment builds and enforce consistency across dev/test/QA/prod
• Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for infrastructure and cloud issues
• Participate in on-call rotation, providing tier-3/4 support for critical services
• Support cloud cost optimization and capacity planning
• Govern Azure DevOps for infrastructure projects using agile methodology
• Troubleshoot production and non-production Azure resource instances, including application and network-level issues
• Produce technical assessments and documentation, providing recommendations to management
• Partner with cross-functional teams to align delivery models

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience leading and architecting infrastructure work (leadership emphasis)
• Strong hands-on Infrastructure as Code experience (Bicep and/or Terraform), including codifying security controls
• Experience designing and implementing secure Azure platform and application landing zones
• Proficiency automating Day 2 operational and security tasks for cloud applications
• Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevSecOps tooling (Azure DevOps, Octopus Deploy, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)
• Deep expertise with Microsoft Azure and Octopus Deploy (or similar), including deploying and managing App Services, .NET web apps, Azure SQL Databases, and related services with security best practices
• Strong Azure networking knowledge and application security understanding from infrastructure through code level

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ years of Bicep experience (will consider 1+ year of Bicep with other IaC experience)
• Terraform experience
• Experience with tooling comparable to Octopus Deploy
