RESPONSIBILITIES

• Complete pre-closing fraud reviews on mortgage loan files, including identification of red flags related to income, asset, occupancy, identity, and collateral misrepresentation.
• Complete post-closing fraud reviews on funded loan files in accordance with investor and agency requirements (Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA).
• Manage investor repurchase demands from initial notice through resolution, including loan file analysis, defect rebuttal documentation, and coordination with secondary marketing and legal counsel.
• Identify and escalate suspected fraud patterns, schemes, or trends across loan production, including potential mortgage fraud rings, straw buyers, and occupancy misrepresentation.
• Prepare Suspicious Activity Report (SAR) recommendations and supporting documentation in coordination with the BSA/AML Officer, where applicable.
• Maintain documented fraud review findings, repurchase demand logs, and resolution tracking to support audit and regulatory examination readiness.
• Coordinate with underwriting, closing, processing, and quality control to validate or remediate flagged file conditions.
• Research investor, agency, and Government-Sponsored Enterprise (GSE) repurchase and fraud guidelines and update internal procedures as requirements change.
• Support regulatory examination, investor audits, and internal/external QC audits by compiling fraud review and repurchase case files.
• Foster a professional, courteous, and welcoming work environment.
• Duties may extend beyond those listed above as time permits and business needs require.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior experience in the mortgage industry, with direct exposure to fraud detection, quality control, or investor relations functions.
• Working knowledge of mortgage fraud schemes (income/asset fraud, occupancy fraud, identity theft, appraisal fraud, straw buyer schemes and red flag indicators.
• Working knowledge of investor repurchase and indemnification frameworks under Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac selling guides, and FHA/VA/USDA investor requirements.
• Proficiency in identifying discrepancies, inconsistencies, and misrepresentation indicators across loan documentation (income, asset, employment, title, appraisal).
• High accuracy in file review and analysis with meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong Excel skills, including the ability to manage and analyze loan level data sets.
• Ability to manage multiple file reviews and repurchase demand deadlines independently.
• Excellent written communication skills, including the ability to draft defect rebuttals and investor correspondence.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Must be a team player with the ability to work effectively across underwriting, closing, QC and secondary marketing functions.
• Ability to comprehend and integrate updated investor and regulatory fraud/repurchase requirements into daily file reviews.
• Self-motivated with a commitment to learning and contributing to a successful, innovative team.

EXPERIENCE

• Minimum of 2 years in mortgage banking, mortgage fraud investigation, quality control, or investor repurchase/loss mitigation.
• Direct experience with pre-closing and/or post-closing fraud review process is required.
• Direct experience handling investor repurchases, indemnification, or make-whole demands is advantageous.
• Familiarity with Encompass or similar loan origination system is preferred.
• Familiarity with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, FHA, VA, USDA mortgage lending and selling guide requirements are required.
