The GateHouse is looking for a full-time Counselor to assist our Residential Extended Care facility in beautiful Marietta, PA. Great working environment that promotes a culture of personal and professional growth.
Reports to: Clinical Supervisor
Schedule: Monday-Friday; must be available to work one evening a week 1:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Summary Statement:
The Counselor assists clients in making healthy decisions in matters affecting their future lifestyle. The Counselor will provide clients with the necessary means and motivation for individual growth, and continued recovery from substance (chemical) addiction within the framework of facility regulations. The Counselor is supervised by Clinical Supervisor. The Counselor offers a positive relationship, sets a good example, communicates an attitude of concern, listens, assists and displays a real belief in The GateHouse philosophy. The Counselor may be assigned additional duties and responsibilities by the Clinical Director or as deemed necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
Specific Counseling
Individual scheduled counseling: 1 hour sessions. Clients will be scheduled weekly by the Counselor for these sessions. Most of the focus will be on the treatment plans.
Group counseling: two hour sessions, two times weekly.
Unscheduled sessions: clients requesting to be seen by Counselor will be given specific times that the Counselor can meet with them. This will be based on assessment of importance.
Family sessions/workshop: the Counselor will see individual families of clients at prearranged, scheduled times, and conduct Family Workshops according to annual schedule. Referral to other family counseling agencies will be made on an as-needed basis. Alanon, Alateen, COA, Naranon and other self-help organizations will also be emphasized.
Miscellaneous
1. Coordinates with the Residential Program Supervisor for weekly “house meeting” and house activities
2. Co-counsels when deemed necessary.
3. Will attend all training offered by the Clinical Supervisor based on annual evaluations of needs.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to climb stairs. Must be able to work extended hours as needed. Must be able to travel. Must be able to climb stairs.
Qualifications: Must meet Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs Staffing requirements which includes minimum:
1. Bachelor’s Degree with a major relating to human services and 1 year of clinical experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Must be computer literate and able to work with most Microsoft products.
2. Able to handle multiple tasks at one time.
3. Organizational skills.
4. Detail oriented.
5. Ability to communicate and cooperate with employees of all levels.
6. Knowledge of persons served.
7. Knowledge of DDAP & CARF standards.
