Duties

• Review and assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT, and DRG codes to medical records based on detailed documentation and coding guidelines.
• Prepare and submit insurance claims using advanced billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
• Verify patient insurance coverage, process health insurance claims, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims to maximize reimbursements.
• Maintain comprehensive medical records, ensuring all billing information aligns with medical terminology and coding standards.
• Stay current with evolving medical coding guidelines, including inpatient and outpatient coding for various specialties.
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies that impact billing or coding accuracy.
• Manage the revenue cycle process from initial claim submission through payment posting, ensuring compliance with third-party payer requirements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare setting, with familiarity using EMR/EHR systems.
• Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent credential is required.
• Strong knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding, DRG assignment, and medical terminology.
• Understanding of health insurance claim processing, third-party billing procedures, and revenue cycle management.
• Ability to interpret medical records accurately while adhering to medical coding guidelines for inpatient and outpatient services.
• Excellent attention to detail with strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims efficiently.
• Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) management for billing and coding purposes is essential.
