We foster programs in the areas of basic, translational, mechanistic and population research.

The FastTraCS service within the NC TraCS Institute focuses on identifying, supporting, and advancing the commercialization of translational research. The NC TraCS Institute is funded by the National Institutes of Health through the Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) Program, a five-year, $58 million grant dedicated to improving the health of North Carolinians.

The Industrial Designer will cultivate and leverage relationships with clinicians, staff, and researchers across the UNC Health system to identify unmet medical needs and develop patient-centered solutions. Working closely with the FastTraCS team, this role will help prioritize opportunities and rapidly design, prototype, test, and validate innovative concepts. The ideal candidate will have experience in design thinking, human factors, CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing, along with familiarity with medical device regulations and quality systems (ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820) and design for manufacturability.

The NC TraCS Institute is hiring a full-time Industrial Designer who will collaborate closely with FastTraCS staff. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong teamwork, an intrapreneurial or entrepreneurial mindset, and excellent relationship management skills.

Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent research productivity, will accept a relevant Bachelor’s degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution. May require terminal degree and licensure.

The ideal candidate will have experience in design thinking, human factors, CAD/CAM, rapid prototyping, and 3D printing, along with familiarity with medical device regulations and quality systems (ISO 13485 and 21 CFR 820) and design for manufacturability.
