The Medical Director provides physician leadership and clinical oversight for hospice and palliative care services across all locations. This role supervises hospice physicians and advanced practice providers, partners with interdisciplinary leadership to ensure exceptional patient-centered care, promotes quality and regulatory compliance, and serves as a trusted medical resource for staff, patients, families, and community providers.

Location: Waterloo, IA (will travel to CVH office locations on a regular basis)

Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school required.
Current unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Iowa required.
Current DEA registration required.
Board Certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine preferred.
Minimum of five (5) years of physician practice experience with demonstrated expertise in hospice and palliative medicine preferred.
Previous physician leadership or medical director experience preferred.
Hospital admitting privileges, or the ability to obtain privileges, within Cedar Valley Hospice's service area.
Provide physician leadership and medical oversight for hospice and palliative care programs across all service locations.
Deliver expert clinical consultation for complex symptom management, pain management, goals-of-care discussions, and end-of-life decision making.
Certify and recertify hospice eligibility and provide direct patient care as needed.
Participate in an equitable physician on-call rotation and respond to urgent clinical needs in accordance with organizational policies.
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and review patient plans of care.
Supervise, mentor, and support hospice physicians and advanced practice providers, including recruitment, onboarding, scheduling, and performance development.
Partner with organizational leadership to advance quality improvement, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and operational efficiency.
Serve as a trusted medical resource for staff, patients, families, referral partners, and community healthcare providers.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Work in a variety of settings including office, hospice home, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and patient’s’ homes.
Regular travel between service area locations and community care settings required.
Ability to move 50lbs with or without accommodation.
Participate in a physician on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Demonstrate compassion, emotional resilience, professionalism, and sound clinical judgment while caring for patients with serious illness and supporting families through end-of-life care.
