Position Summary
Woodmont Christian Church, a large and historic congregation serving Nashville for more than 80 years, seeks a Director of Communications to shape, coordinate, and advance the church’s internal and external communications.
This position will communicate Woodmont’s mission—to Seek God, Share Love, and Serve Others—through compelling stories, thoughtful strategy, consistent branding, and effective use of digital and traditional media.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Communications and Brand Management
- Collaborate with Woodmont’s ministry team to develop an annual communications calendar that prioritizes church events, programs, and projects.
- Coordinate messaging around the seasons and rhythms of the church’s program year.
- Maintain a consistent message, tone, visual identity, and brand across all communication channels.
- Oversee signage throughout the church’s physical property to ensure alignment with its brand.
- Lead and coordinate the communications team in producing photographic, video, written, and graphic content.
Storytelling and Content Development
- Partner with church leadership and ministry staff to tell the story of Woodmont’s mission and community engagement.
- Write compelling stories about people engaged in transformative ministry, encouraging members to recognize and use their own gifts.
- Share how God is moving through Woodmont to speak hope, bring healing, and empower people from many backgrounds to serve together.
- Work with ministry teams to create occasional booklets, brochures, pamphlets, and other materials highlighting their work and impact.
Website, Email, and Social Media
- Design, manage, and regularly update Woodmont’s website at woodmontchristian.org.
- Develop a strategic vision for how the website can best support the church’s ministries and programs.
- Design, coordinate, and edit Inspire, Woodmont’s weekly email newsletter.
- Design and distribute special announcement emails at the request of senior leadership.
- Oversee the editing and publication of worship services, speaker programs, and special events on YouTube, the church’s website, and other appropriate platforms.
- Develop and implement a cohesive social media strategy.
- Oversee the creation and regular publication of social media content.
- Develop practices for engaging thoughtfully and consistently with Woodmont’s online audiences.
- Use analytics to evaluate communication effectiveness and refine strategy.
Media and Public Relations
- Work with senior leadership to identify events and programs that should be promoted throughout the greater Nashville community.
- Write and distribute media releases through appropriate channels.
- Build awareness and generate interest in Woodmont’s ministries, programs, and public events.
Additional Responsibilities Collaborate with administrative staff to design and produce the weekly worship bulletin.
- Create announcement graphics for worship screens and information monitors.
- Help staff maintain contact databases for individual ministries.
- Perform other communications-related duties as needed.
Qualifications
- At least five years of experience in digital communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.
- Experience developing and implementing strategic communications for an organization.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with careful attention to tone, grammar, accuracy, and style.
- Demonstrated success creating high-quality digital content across multiple platforms, including websites, email, and social media.
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud or comparable design tools, as well as Microsoft Office.
- Experience using analytics to evaluate messaging effectiveness and guide improvements.
- Strong organizational and project-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- The ability to collaborate effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- An appreciation for Woodmont’s Christian mission and the ability to communicate about faith, ministry, and community engagement with authenticity and care.
