Starting Pay: $31,200 annual ($15.00/hr.)
Purpose of Classification:
The purpose of this classification is to perform manual work functions to maintain facilities and grounds, fuel and move aircraft and perform routine airport operations.
Essential Functions:
The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Performs manual work functions associated with airport operations: refuels aircraft; reloads fuel trucks; directs, parks, and secures aircraft; manually tows aircraft; removes debris from runways, taxiways and parking areas; replaces and repairs runway lights; replaces and repairs windsocks; and patrols grounds and reports suspicious activity.
Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep airport machinery, equipment and tools in good working condition: inspects equipment; checks fluid levels; replaces fluids; changes fuel filters; tests fuel for contaminants; greases equipment; washes/cleans equipment; inspects fire extinguishers, etc.; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; and reports faulty equipment.
Performs general housekeeping/maintenance tasks associated with maintaining airport facilities: unlocks/secures buildings; cleans terminal buildings; re-stocks vending machines, coffee machines and ice machines; and removes/disposes of trash, etc.
Maintains inventory of departmental fuel, supplies, and equipment: initiates requests for new or replacement materials; and stocks and distributes supplies.

Processes documentation associated with department/division operations, within designated timeframes and per established procedures: receives and reviews various documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate; prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, and other documentation; compiles data for further processing or for use in preparation of department reports; and maintains computerized and/or hardcopy records.
Operates a business-issued computer to enter, retrieve, review or modify data, utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, Internet, e-mail, or other software; and operates general office or other equipment as necessary to complete essential functions.
Communicates with supervisor, other employees, pilots, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Essential Functions When Assigned to General Maintenance Operations:
Performs a variety of landscaping duties: mows grass; weed eats around runway, signs, and fence lines; edges curb lines; clears leaves, tree limbs and other debris from runway and other areas; applies herbicides and pesticides; prunes trees; and removes now and ice as needed.
Operates or uses various equipment, power tools, hand tools and supplies in order to complete work assignments; operates and maintains mower, weed eater tractor, bush hod, pruning shears, and other equipment.
Additional Functions:
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in routine airport maintenance and operations; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
Specific License or Certification Required: Valid SC Driver’s License.
