Job Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled Controls Engineer to join our dynamic manufacturing team, supporting automation and robotics systems integral to our production processes. The ideal candidate will be responsible for designing, programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced control systems that enhance operational efficiency and ensure safety standards. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge industrial automation technologies, including Fanuc robotic systems, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), and human-machine interfaces (HMIs). The Controls Engineer will play a pivotal role in optimizing manufacturing workflows through innovative engineering solutions and rigorous root cause analysis.
Duties
- Design, develop, and implement control systems for industrial robotic applications, including Fanuc robots and other automated equipment.
- Program and troubleshoot programmable logic controllers (PLCs) using ladder logic (LD) and other engineering programming languages.
- Configure and optimize human-machine interfaces (HMIs) to facilitate seamless operator interactions with machinery.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings to support installation, maintenance, and upgrades.
- Integrate industrial networks such as Ethernet/IP, Profibus, or Modbus to ensure reliable communication between control devices.
- Conduct root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with mechanical engineers on tooling design, machining processes, and integration of vision inspection systems.
- Utilize AutoCAD and SolidWorks for schematic development and mechanical layout planning.
- Troubleshoot industrial equipment issues related to automation systems, sensors, actuators, and vision systems.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives by optimizing control processes for efficiency and waste reduction.
- Maintain documentation of control system configurations, modifications, and maintenance activities in compliance with industry standards such as CGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practices).
- Participate in continuous improvement projects by applying robotics engineering principles and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience practicing in an industrial or manufacturing engineering role with a focus on automation systems.
- Extensive knowledge of Fanuc robotic systems and industrial robotic programming.
- Proficiency in PLC programming languages such as ladder logic (LD), structured text, or function block diagrams.
- Strong understanding of electrical schematic reading and interpretation.
- Experience with industrial networks including Ethernet/IP, Profibus, or Modbus protocols.
- Skilled in troubleshooting industrial equipment including sensors, actuators, vision inspection systems, and distributed control systems (DCS).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, SolidWorks for schematic design and mechanical layout development.
- Mechanical knowledge related to tooling, machining processes, and mechanical assembly is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform root cause analysis effectively under pressure while maintaining safety standards.
- Excellent communication skills for cross-disciplinary collaboration across engineering teams.
