El Vínculo Hispano (EVH) seeks an experienced, talented, and creative leader to serve as Program Manager for Cultivar, a new initiative of our Orgullo Latinx Pride Youth Program (OLP). Cultivar engages youth in sustainability, conservation, agroecology, food sovereignty, and land stewardship through the lens of Latinx culture.
This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position based out of our Siler City office and two local high schools. Must be fluent in Spanish/English. The Cultivar Program Manager works in partnership with OLP program staff, youth members, and other stakeholders. This position reports to Selina Lopez, OLP Program Director. This is a 4-year project funded by a USDA sub-grant fromAsekia.
Orgullo Latinx Pride is a youth centered program designed to meet the needs of Latinx youth today. OLP is a free year-round program for 94 Latinx high school students at two Chatham County schools. OLP creates a brave space for Latinx youth to feel empowered, become more resilient, and pursue their dreams. We offer individualized academic and socio-emotional support, leadership development, assistance with the entire college enrollment process, experiential learning, and educational field trips.
Cultivar’s goals are to:
- Cultivate environmental awareness rooted in Latine cultural traditions
- Connect youth to local food systems and land-based practices
- Develop the next generation of environmental stewards
- Build pathways to education and careers in conservation, sustainability, and agriculture
Key Responsibilities
Program Development & Implementation:
- Integrate Cultivar’s conservation-focused curriculum into OLP’s programming.
- Facilitate curriculum-based youth meetings and activities.
- Coordinate and facilitate educational workshops and service-learning opportunities.
- Organize field trips and program-related, including farm tours, environmental restoration projects, and career exploration sessions.
- Coordinate apprenticeship/mentorship opportunities for youth to gain practical skills and exposure to careers.
- Collaborate with our Youth Leadership Team members to center youth in decision-making for the program.
Community & Family Partnerships
- Establish and strengthen relationships including Future Farmers of America, 4-H, NRCS, Central Carolina Community College’s Sustainable Agriculture Program, Cooperative Extension Service, local farmers, etc.
- Coordinate with local conservation groups to integrate environmental education and community restoration efforts into programming.
- Plan and facilitate workshops for Spanish-speaking focused on conservation and sustainability.
- Promote the program through bilingual outreach on social media and at community events.
Evaluation & Reporting:
- Utilize our database, excel spreadsheets, and other tools to track program data and activities.
- Document achievements, best practices, and success stories (ex: skill development, interest in conservation careers, follow-up assessments).
- Assist in compiling regular program reports for funder, executive director, board, and other stakeholders.
Other responsibilities:
- Participate in fundraising efforts for OLP and EVH.
- Assist in organizing other organizational events such as our annual Hispanic Heritage Fiesta.
- Assist in researching and writing grants to ensure program sustainability.
Requirements:
- B.A. or B.S. degree from an accredited 4-year institution in Agricultural Education, Agroecology & Sustainable Food Systems, Horticultural Science, Biological & Agricultural Engineering Technology, Fisheries, Wildlife & Conservation Biology or related/relevant fields.
- Fluent in English and Spanish (must be able to read, write and speak)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience working with Latine youth
- Excelllent facilitation skills and comfortable leading groups.
- Team player.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Organized and detailed oriented.
- Available to work some evenings and weekends (OLP youth meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3 to 7 PM).
- Able to relate to Latinx youth and parents from varying socio-economic backgrounds, gender orientations, and immigration status.
- Knowledgeable about and committed to social justice, racial, gender and education equity.
- Proficient in MS Office 365 suite and social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat.
- Strong commitment to the mission of EVH and OLP program
Other requirements:
- Valid NC Drivers’ License
- At least 3 professional references
- Criminal background check will be conducted prior to employement
- COVID-19 vaccination preferred
Compensation: Annual salary range of $49,000 to 54,000, commensurate with experience. Benefits include 20 days of PTO and 12 paid holidays. Eligible to enroll in BCBS health insurance plan with optional vision and dental coverage upon completion of a 3-month probationary period.
