● Brief Description: The Sr. Developer designs, develops, and maintains cloud-native applications, platform services, and event-driven integration frameworks for a complex, mission-critical cloud platform hosted in AWS GovCloud. This role leads development of new platform capabilities including event bus architecture, API development, microservices design, and platform automation, while mentoring junior developers and ensuring all code meets security, quality, and compliance standards through approved DevSecOps CI/CD workflows.
● Responsibilities:
○ Design, develop, test, and deploy cloud-native applications and platform services using containerized, microservices-based architecture on Kubernetes (EKS)
○ Lead development of the Scheduling Event Bus providing scalable, secure, event-driven integration across enterprise scheduling systems including VistA, Telehealth platforms, Oracle Health, and Community Care
○ Implement event-driven architectures incorporating real-time and near-real-time event publishing and subscription, standardized version-controlled event schemas, and message contracts ensuring interoperability and backward compatibility
○ Develop and maintain RESTful APIs supporting platform services and tenant application integration
○ Implement dead-letter queue management, message replay capability, and fault-tolerant message processing patterns
○ Design and implement loose coupling between producers and consumers to reduce system dependencies, minimize integration risk, and improve overall system resilience
○ Develop onboarding procedures, integration standards, reference architectures, sample code, and reusable integration patterns enabling additional applications to integrate with platform services
○ Integrate automated unit, integration, regression, performance, and security testing into all build and release workflows
○ Implement container image builds, tagging, signing, and vulnerability scanning within CI/CD pipelines
○ Ensure all code and deployments follow approved DevSecOps pipeline processes with environment segregation across sandbox, staging, and production
○ Collaborate with DevSecOps and SRE teams to implement blue/green, canary, rolling, or other advanced deployment strategies
○ Ensure applications integrate required logging, metrics, and tracing standards for monitoring and observability
○ Support infrastructure automation through scripting, tooling, and automation frameworks that reduce manual operational toil
○ Mentor and guide junior developers on coding standards, design patterns, security practices, and platform-specific development patterns
○ Participate in code reviews ensuring adherence to secure coding standards and approved dependency management practices
○ Participate in Agile and SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and retrospectives
● Qualifications:
○ Demonstrated experience in software development for cloud-native, containerized applications deployed on Kubernetes in Federal or enterprise environments
○ Proficiency in one or more programming languages commonly used in cloud-native development (Java, Python, Go, Node.js, or equivalent)
○ Experience designing and implementing microservices architectures, RESTful APIs, and event-driven integration patterns
○ Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka, Amazon MSK, or equivalent event streaming platforms
○ Experience with Docker containerization, Kubernetes deployment manifests, and Helm chart development
○ Familiarity with CI/CD pipeline development and integration including automated testing, security scanning, and deployment automation
○ Experience with Infrastructure as Code concepts and tooling (Terraform or equivalent)
○ Knowledge of secure coding practices, OWASP standards, and software supply chain security
○ Experience with version control systems (Git, Bitbucket, or equivalent) and artifact repository management (Nexus or equivalent)
○ Familiarity with monitoring and observability integration including logging, metrics, and distributed tracing
○ Experience working in Agile or SAFe environments with sprint-based delivery cadences
○ AWS Certified Developer Associate or equivalent certification preferred
○ Certified Kubernetes Application Developer (CKAD) or equivalent certification preferred
○ Bachelor's Degree from an accredited academic institution with a minimum of 7 years of experience in software development, with at least 3 years developing cloud-native, containerized applications for Federal or enterprise IT environments
● Plus:
○ Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) experience
○ Active Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card
○ Experience with VistA integration, HL7 FHIR, or healthcare interoperability standards
○ Experience developing event-driven integration frameworks at enterprise scale
○ Experience with VA Technical Reference Model (TRM) approved development tools and frameworks
