The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) performs routine and moderately complex laboratory testing to support diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patient conditions. Working under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Scientist or Laboratory director, the MLT ensures accurate, timely, and reliable test results while maintaining compliance with CLIA and hospital quality standards.

- Performs routine and moderate complexity testing in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, immunology, and transfusion services as permitted by CLIA regulations.
- Completes appropriate routing, handling, and processing of various medical specimens including blood, stool, sputum, throat cultures.
- Runs daily QC, evaluates results, documents corrective actions, and participates in proficiency testing.
- Operates, calibrates, and performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on laboratory analyzers and equipment.
- Receives, labels, prepares, and processes specimens; ensures proper handling, storage, and routing; Interprets physician's orders and secures a requisition before performing test.
- Reviews results for accuracy, identifies abnormal or critical values, and follows established protocols for provider notification.
- Maintains accurate records, follows SOPs and adheres to CLIA, COLA and hospital safety standards.
- Performs venipuncture and capillary collections as assigned; provides professional, compassionate patient care.
- Works closely with MLS/MT staff, nursing, and providers to support efficient workflow and timely turnaround.
- Monitors reagent and supply levels; assist with ordering and stocking.
- Identifies workflow issues and contributes to quality and efficiency initiatives.
- Answer phones and questions presented by callers, Doctors, and Hospital Staff.
- Collect drug screens with a chain of custody (DOT and non-DOT); Performs Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) and completes associated Chain of Custody
- Collects paternity tests and properly completes associated chain of custody.

Associate degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related field required; prior clinical laboratory experience preferred; new graduates welcomed based on training capacity.
Must be a national registered Medical Laboratory Technician, preferring three years’ experience in laboratory work. Continuing education on a regular basis. Must meet all guidelines required under CLIA 88. BLS certification and training required.
