Structural Engineer Job Description

Summary of Responsibilities

• This position is for mid-level structural engineers with approximately 4-6 years of experience of structural engineering
• Using input and guidance from senior engineers, this person will design and detail full gravity and lateral load resisting systems with minimal guidance
• Perform engineering calculations with a variety of materials (wood, steel, concrete, masonry) in a variety of industries (residential, commercial, & industrial) and software packages following company standard operating procedures
• Prepare construction documents with Revit that accurately and completely detail the structure according to the calculations completed
• Mentor, review, and correct junior engineer and drafting production and utilize junior design staff as part of daily production team for projects
• Perform site visits for projects as required

Minimum Qualifications

• B.S. Civil Engineering & EIT Registration
• 3 years of experience structural engineering and 2 years of experience with light-frame wood construction design
• Experience using Revit and ForteWeb
• Structural Analysis course completed along with steel, concrete, wood, or masonry design courses (minimum of 2 design courses required, preference on wood, steel, and concrete)

Required Core Competencies

• Follow established design procedures and recommend improvements when appropriate
• Ability to calculate design loads correctly according to the governing code
• Ability to correctly identify load paths when designing gravity framing and lateral framing
• Ability to correctly detail construction documents to reflect completed calculations
• Working knowledge of IBC/IRC, ASCE 7, NDS, AISC, and ACI 318

Ideal Qualifications (Not Required)

• Experience with RISA 3d
• Proficient with Revit, ForteWeb, Blubeam
• PE license
• 3+ years of documented experience performing structural design of light-frame wood structures or small to medium size commercial structures
• Completion of Master’s Degree or the following classes:

o Structural Analysis I and II

o Wood Structure Design

o Steel Structure Design

o Concrete Structure Design

o Masonry Structure Design

Must Provide Minimum of 2 Professional References

Salary Range & Benefits

• $70k - $110k

• SEP Retirement plan contributions with no vesting period. Recent company contributions have been in the range of 15% - 25% of annual salary + bonus.

Technical Skills

• Experience with Revit and BluBeam Revu
• Experience with RISA 3d & ForteWeb

Expectations & Check-Ins

• End of week 1

o Onboarding complete (2 hours)

o Required software installed on computer (2 hours)

o Read through Operations Manual (1 hour)

o Read through Employee Handbook (1 hour)

o Review how typical project folders are organized (1 hour)

o Meeting with Cole to discuss competencies and expected roles (1 hour)

o Review sample projects for drawing layout/drafting standards and calculation organization/layout (12 hours)

o Complete Revit Structure tutorial as required (6 hours)

o Begin project work.

• End of week 2

o Understand tasks expected to be completed

o Review questions with Cole (4 hours)

o Review how to communicate results of tasks with Cole

• End of month 1

o Firm understanding of tasks expected

o Ability to complete tasks with limited questions on day-to-day issues

o Ability to communicate results of tasks clearly and concisely

o Demonstrate growth of knowledge and competency for basic engineering tasks

o Ability to plan tasks for following week to complete projects on time

o Performance review with Cole

• End of month 2

o Quickly and efficiently complete tasks

o Understand where your engineering skills end and identify how to grow and develop engineering skills with Cole

• End of month 3

o Performance reviews will be conducted quarterly

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $110,000.00 per year
