We currently seek a part-time Retail Representative for our Thrift Shop who will be responsible for making sales, ensuring excellent service to customers, and sharing the mission of Youth Homes. This role provides a springboard into a retail profession and will enable you to develop and hone your retail skills, while working in an environment that fosters growth, creativity, and learning.
The starting pay rate is $17.58 - $18.08 per hour, depending on knowledge, skills, and abilities. This part-time position offers up to 26 hours per week, and weekend availability is required. The schedule for the position is: Tuesday-Friday: 2:30pm - 7:15pm, Saturday: 12pm - 7:15pm.Occasional Sunday shifts may be required, with hours determined as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Point of Sale Management
- Correctly operate the point-of-sale software program.
- Accurately open and close the register.
- Handle cash, credit and other transactions accurately and efficiently.
Customer Service
- Welcome and greet customers and provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
- Determine customer needs, recommend products, and upsell items.
- Answers questions related to merchandise, selecting and suggesting options suitable for the customer’s needs.
- Recommend the shop loyalty program to customers.
- Ensure round up donations are collected.
- Answer questions related to the mission of Youth Homes and the mission of the shop.
- Stay up to date and maintain an excellent working knowledge of current promotions and sales, payments, and exchange policies.
Shop Presentation & Merchandising
- Ensure the store always remains clean and presentable by regular dusting, cleaning, vacuuming and cleaning windows as needed.
- Ensure racks and rounders are neatly organized by color/size and category.
- Dress mannequins and ensure merchandise is highlighted to inspire purchases
- Return items from fitting rooms to the sale floor promptly and in the correct location.
Meetings and Communication
- Attend occasional staff meetings or training sessions as needed.
- Communicate through the cashier group chat to ensure clear and consistent communication.

- Ability to operate and learn the store’s point of sale (POS) system.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous retail experience
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a retail or cashier position, preferably in a thrift shop or similar environment.
- Proficiency with point-of-sale systems and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve software issues.
- Excellent customer service skills with a friendly and positive attitude.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
