Construction Superintendent

Aurora Launch Services (ALS): Aurora Launch Services is a wholly owned subsidiary of Alaska Aerospace, established to provide low cost, highly reliable launch services on a contract basis to both government and commercial space launch customers worldwide. Position Summary: The Construction Superintendent’s principal duty is to lead and manage any on-site construction, overseeing all work activities to ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, according to specifications, while maintaining safety compliance; this includes coordinating subcontractors, managing schedules, and resolving any issues that arise during construction. This position primary reports to the Spaceport Development Program Manager and may provide support to other programs at the SDP PM’s discretion.

Location: This position is based at the Pacific Spaceport Complex – Alaska in Kodiak, AK. Work is performed on-site, with occasional travel to other operational sites in support of mission activities and organizational needs.

Primary Job Responsibilities:

1. Interpret project blueprints and specifications, develop detailed work plans, and oversee the daily operations of the construction site to adhere to project timelines.

2. Conduct regular quality inspections to ensure all work meets project standards, identify potential issues, and implement corrective actions.

3. Monitor progress on the construction site, identify potential problems, and make necessary adjustments to maintain project schedule and budget.

4. Identify and address any challenges or obstacles that arise during construction, finding solutions to ensure project completion on time and within budget.

5. Manage Spaceport Enhancement upgrades to Facilities, equipment, and site-specific programs run by Department Leads.

6. Lead and motivate the members of the program team, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient work practices.

7. Maintain open communication with project managers, engineers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, providing regular progress reports and updates on project status.

8. Collaborate with program team, contracts personnel, and stakeholders to develop proposal responses. Provide input to define project’s scope of work, price estimates, and schedule timelines.

9. Perform material takeoffs, determine equipment needs, and obtain cost estimates. Generate requirements and specifications for procurement.

10. Provide input and reviews during design phases with Engineer of Record and program stakeholders to develop specifications, facility layouts, and specialized equipment needs.

11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Knowledge and/or experience related to management of federally funded projects preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to work with all levels of contractors, subcontractors, employees and management within the organization.
• Ability to quickly identify problems and efficiently solve them.
• Ability to read, understand, and execute blueprints, drawings, and plans.
• Ability to multi-task in a very dynamic and complex aerospace environment.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities, meet strict deadlines, and handle confidential matters in a mature and responsible manner.

Required Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field required. Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.
• At least five (5) years of experience in civil construction, facilities, project, or field operations experience on large-scale projects; ideally with a supervisory role.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

This position operates in both indoor and outdoor environments, including operational sites and field locations. Duties require frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds; heavier lifting may require assistance or appropriate equipment. Work may involve exposure to equipment, machinery, noise, dust, dirt, fumes, smoke, and varying weather conditions. Use of company-required and task-appropriate personal protective equipment is required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provides oversight and coordination of contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and other on-site personnel to ensure work is completed safely, timely, and in accordance with project expectations. May direct assigned employees or support personnel as required but may not have direct employee supervisory authority.

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by mission campaigns, as applicable.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).
• Successful completion of pre-employment background check and drug screening.

To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.

Compensation

A competitive salary and benefits package, determined upon experience level of individual, will be negotiated after an offer to hire has been given. The anticipated salary range for this position is $110,186 to $134,368 annually.
