Job Purpose
The Senior Estimator reports to the Vice President of Estimating and contributes to the overall success of the organization by assisting in the preparation of cost estimates for assigned projects, participation / responsibility for preparation of bid packages, leading large project pursuits while managing multiple estimating team members, leading and participating in bid reviews, ongoing training / mentorship of estimators, participation in post-bid estimate analysis and post project award support.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Have a thorough knowledge of the plans, specifications, and all estimate related documents for assigned projects.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and job site visits and convey all information and photos obtained to the estimating team.
- Perform manual and electronic quantity take-offs from project plans, specifications, and standard details.
- Participate in post-take-off handoff meetings and provide detailed review of quantity take-off’s performed by others.
- Document plan revisions, document discrepancies and assist in preparing RFI questions for review by the estimating team and submission to the client.
- Review, update and distribute changes to bid scopes / documents with additional bidding information (RFI’s, Addendum, Plan updates, etc.) via RFP software and Email to prospective Subcontractors and Suppliers.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates using HCSS HeavyBid Software.
- Utilize existing cost / bid history as a cross check of prepared estimates.
- Analyze alternative construction methods to increase competitiveness of bids.
- Lead and participate in estimate reviews with Estimators and Senior Estimating Engineer to further develop estimating skills and refine prepared estimates.
- Present final prepared estimates to VP of Estimating for review to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with the preparation of formal Bid Forms, Statement of Qualifications and Bid Submission documents.
- Ensure that all relevant bid documents are submitted before the bid deadlines.
- Develop relationships and communicate with owners, subcontractors, public and private entities to ensure competitiveness.
- Mentor and Train Estimating Team members
- Assisting in Post Bid Award preparations and Hand-off to Procurement Team
- Assisting in Post Bid Award Bid Hand-off preparations including Estimate Coding for HeavyJob, Subcontract summary for Contracts Team and participation in Estimating to Field Operations Hand-off meetings
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; college degree in Engineering or Construction Management preferred.
- Heavy Civil / Underground Construction industry experience required; Minimum of 5 years of progressive Estimating experience required. Preference to candidates with prior Public Works experience.
- Experience supervising team bidding efforts, reviewing bids prepared by others and mentoring Estimators and Senior Estimating Engineers preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of HCSS HeavyBid estimating software.
- Experience with infrastructure projects including subdivision,roadways, utilities,
- earthwork, and concrete structures
- Successful completion of a pre-employment alcohol and drug test.
- Valid driver's license.
- Must possess a high level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Must be a self-starter and can perform tasks with limited direction.
Salary Range
As listed, dependent upon experience.

Pay: $130,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
