We are seeking a Design & Construction Associate to support the planning, design, and construction of our development projects. This role works directly with the Manager of Design & Construction and provides exposure to all phases of development, from early design through construction, project turnover, and warranty. This is an excellent opportunity for an architect or construction professional interested in transitioning to the owner/developer side of the industry.
Position Summary
The Design & Construction Associate serves as a key member of the development team, helping oversee project coordination, consultant management, construction administration, quality control, and retail tenant coordination. The ideal candidate has a strong technical understanding of construction documents, enjoys solving problems, and is comfortable working with architects, engineers, contractors, tenants, and ownership teams. This position combines office-based project coordination with regular construction site visits and provides broad exposure to the development process.
Key Responsibilities:
Design Review & Consultant Coordination
· High level review of architectural, structural, civil, landscape, and MEP drawings for quality, coordination, constructability, and compliance with company standards.
· Participate in coordination meetings and perform drawing reviews throughout schematic design, design development, construction documents, permitting, and construction.
· Coordinate comments and direction between ownership, consultants, and contractors.
· Help implement and maintain Lowe Property Group design and construction standards.
Construction Administration & Quality Control
· Attend Owner-Architect-Contractor (OAC) meetings and assist in tracking project progress.
· Conduct regular site walks to verify construction quality and conformance with contract documents.
· Support the team to resolve issues that arise during the RFI, Submittal or Shop Drawing processes.
· Review change order requests.
· Assist with punch lists, closeout documentation, warranties, and project turnover.
· Support schedule tracking and help identify risks to budget, quality, and schedule.
Project Management Support
· Assist with consultant management, project schedules, and project reporting.
· Support permitting, entitlement, and agency coordination efforts.
· Support planning and due diligence efforts for future developments.
Retail & Tenant Coordination
· Serve as a point of contact for retail tenants throughout design and construction.
· Coordinate with tenants, as well as their architects, engineers, or contractors to support successful tenant improvements.
· Review tenant plans for compliance with landlord requirements and building systems.
· Assist in tracking permits, construction progress, and tenant opening milestones.
Warranty & Property Support
· Track warranty issues and contractor responsibilities following project completion.
· Coordinate with property operations teams, consultants, and contractors to resolve outstanding items.
· Support post-occupancy evaluations and implementation of lessons learned across future projects.
Qualifications:
Required
· 2–5 years of experience in architecture, construction administration, construction management, owner's representation, or development.
· Strong understanding of construction documents and building systems.
· Ability to identify and coordinate technical design and construction issues.
· Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
Preferred
· Bachelor's Degree in Architecture.
· Experience with multifamily, mixed-use, office, hospitality, or retail projects.
· Construction administration experience within an architecture firm.
· Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Excel.
· Experience with Rhino
· Familiarity with permitting and entitlement processes.
