About the Role
The Materials Manager is responsible for leading all aspects of materials management, purchasing, inventory control, production planning, and supply chain strategy for a highly customized sheet metal fabrication operation.
This position goes well beyond day-to-day materials management. You will serve as a strategic business partner to Operations, Engineering, Sales, Quality, Finance, and Executive Leadership while driving initiatives that improve inventory performance, customer service, operational efficiency, and profitability.
This role is designed for an individual capable of growing into executive leadership.
What You'll Lead
- Develop and execute supply chain strategy aligned with company growth objectives
- Lead purchasing, planning, scheduling, inventory control, and warehouse operations
- Optimize inventory levels while maintaining exceptional customer service performance
- Drive Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP)
- Develop long-range inventory planning strategies
- Improve ERP/MRP utilization through data-driven decision making
- Establish executive KPI dashboards and performance reporting
- Lead manufacturing capacity planning initiatives
- Develop supplier partnership strategies and performance management programs
- Expand global sourcing opportunities while mitigating supply chain risk
- Lead risk management and business continuity planning
- Support capital planning and manufacturing expansion initiatives
- Provide acquisition integration support for future business growth
- Lead ERP implementation and continuous system improvement initiatives
- Champion Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement across the supply chain
- Build scalable processes supporting long-term organizational growth
Leadership Responsibilities

- Lead cross-functional initiatives across Operations, Engineering, Sales, Finance, and Quality
- Present strategic recommendations and executive business cases to senior leadership
- Influence organizational decisions through strong communication and analytical skills
We're Looking For
The ideal candidate brings strong operational leadership with an increasing scope of responsibility and has demonstrated success within a custom manufacturing environment.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Business, Engineering, or related field (MBA or APICS/CPIM/CSCP certification is a plus)
- 7–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Materials Management or Supply Chain
- Experience in custom sheet metal fabrication, high-mix/low-volume manufacturing, or make-to-order manufacturing
- Extensive ERP/MRP experience with a strong analytical mindset
- Proven ability to reduce inventory while improving customer service levels
- Strong financial acumen with ownership of budgets, inventory valuation, and working capital performance
- Experience leading cross-functional business initiatives
- Executive-level presentation and communication skills
- Demonstrated success developing teams and future leaders
- Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement experience
- Experience with SIOP, demand planning, inventory optimization, and supply chain strategy
