POSITION SUMMARY:
The Field Service Engineer is responsible for providing technical assistance, product support, and field service for all Bauer test equipment. This includes system checkout at the Bauer facility, on-site equipment startup, customer training, and ongoing technical support.
In addition to troubleshooting and supporting equipment in the field, the Field Service Engineer will also be involved in the design modification, upgrade, and retrofit of existing test equipment to meet evolving customer requirements or to extend equipment service life. This may involve hardware updates, control system changes, or integration of new technologies.
The Field Service Engineer works closely with Engineering and Manufacturing during the project lifecycle and is expected to contribute during the design review, build, and checkout phases. Through this involvement, the Field Service Technician develops in-depth knowledge of system functionality and becomes capable of executing support activities independently, including leading on-site retrofits and upgrades.
This role requires strong diagnostic skills, hands-on mechanical/electrical aptitude, and excellent communication abilities. Global travel up to 40% is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS includes, but not limited to:
- Provide on-site technical assistance at customer sites with the operation of Bauer equipment as required when troubleshooting by phone, fax and e-mail fails to resolve issues
- Provide on-site support for the installation of Bauer supplied test stands or services for the modification and/or upgrade of exiting test equipment at customer facilities
- Provide on-site support with the start-up of new Bauer or modified/ upgraded test equipment
- Provide technical training to customer personnel on the operation of new Bauer or modified/upgraded test equipment
- Work with Siemens DAQ hardware and software
- Work with PLC’s and HMI’s
- Perform test equipment modifications and engineering services projects
- Provide test equipment checkout and factory acceptance support
- Perform installation, start-up, and training services at customer facilities
- Develop technical proposals and estimates for Customer Service projects
- Identify new business opportunities via customer relationships
- Provide responses via phone, e-mail, and video calls to customers regarding service requests or warranty claims with all types of Bauer products
- Provide quotes for replacement parts for Bauer products including researching replacement parts for those that have become obsolete
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics
- Experience servicing /troubleshooting electro-mechanical systems including hydraulic and pneumatic test equipment
- Understanding and troubleshooting of process control including plumbing, control valves and measurement sensors
- Working knowledge of electrical circuits and instrumentation
- Working knowledge of PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and HMI interfaces
- Knowledge of aircraft component operation and aircraft tooling
- Computer skills: Design software including CADKEY, AutoCAD and Solid Works, MRP system experience, Microsoft Office
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, or related area of technical field of study.
- 5+ years of technical experience
- 3+ years in a customer service engineering position
- 3+ years hands-on field service experience
- Previous experience in capital equipment, engineered products industry required
- Previous experience in aircraft component test equipment preferred
