POSITION OVERVIEW

The Preschool Infant/Toddler Floater is responsible for providing primary care for children aged 0-5 years old under the direction of the Lead Teacher and the Site Supervisor. This involves meeting all developmental needs of the children, following the Individual Care and Treatment Plans, as well as the care of all clothing, furnishings and equipment utilized in the care of the child. The Preschool Infant/Toddler Floater follows all classroom licensing requirements and health and safety practices. Epiphany follows the PITC curriculum for early care and education with a nature-based filter for optimal exploration opportunities.

Starting Salary: $32-$36 an hour

The compensation for this teaching position is determined by the candidate’s number of ECE units, and type of teaching permit held.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential job duties and meet the qualifications listed below:

• Requires 12 units in Early Childhood Education, with at least 3 units related to the care of infants and at least 6 months experience in a licensed infant care center, preferably in an inclusive or early intervention setting.
• Must possess a current CA Associate Teacher Permit or higher.
• Teachers must demonstrate personal qualities of maturity, responsibility, good judgement and understanding of Trauma Informed Care.
• Maintain client confidentiality in all circumstances as required by professional ethics and legal requirements.
• Communicate effectively with coworkers, faculty, children, and their parents in a respectful manner.
• Must provide valid CPR and First Aid certificates before starting in the classroom.
• Must meet Agency conditions for employment including requirements of annual TB testing, immunizations, and Child Abuse Reporting and Fingerprinting clearances.
• General computer proficiency (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) and written English skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide classroom ratio support during breaks and lunch breaks.
• Assist Teachers in support of children with activities, games, and observations based on classroom curriculum DRDP and individual care plans goals.
• Perform light housekeeping tasks such as sweeping under tables, wiping tables and chairs, prepping and serving meals, doing dishes in the kitchen, dusting, cleaning and disinfecting children’s toys & bathroom, as assigned to maintain a healthy and safe environment for the children.
• Meal preparation for the children in the PCC program when assigned. Provide written report on supplies and weekly health checks in kitchen areas when assigned.
• Establish classroom routine and maintain a safe, stimulating, and organized classroom environment by supervising & engaging with children during activities, playtime, and transitions ensuring their well-being while fostering child exploration and discovery.
• Follow classroom licensing requirements and health and safety practices.
• Implement appropriate lesson plans and activities covering all developmental areas (cognitive, social, emotional, physical) by utilizing a variety of teaching methods, including play-based learning, nature-based learning, storytelling, music, art, and social skills learning.
• Adapt to different teaching strategies to meet the individual needs and learning styles of each child.
• Provide positive modeling of early intervention strategies for parents or relatives participating in the program, modeling appropriate and respectful behavior.
• Participate in developing an Individual Learning Plan for each child with their parents, PCC Site Supervisor, and Mental Health Consultant and ensure the plan is implemented in the classroom.
• Maintain daily logs, contact notes, and accident reports and communicate with parents providing updates on their child’s progress, behavior, and development.
• Observe children’s development, learning styles, and behaviors to identify strengths and areas of growth. Complete DRDP & ASQ 3 assessments in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Mental Health Therapists or Behavioral Specialists to optimize children’s outcomes as needed.
• Perform effectively and professionally under pressure.
• Complete light housekeeping tasks, diapering, and potty training as assigned.
• Attend all In-services, case conferences, and meetings which may include occasional weekend training to enhance skills and knowledge. May also require occasional extended hours for Alumni Reunions and Family Engagement Activities.
• Acknowledge safety policies, procedures, and report potentially unsafe conditions.
• Support and implement the MSJ-SE mission and the philosophy of the Daughters of Charity.
• Comply with program guidelines, policies, procedures, CA Licensing policies, program performance standards and other regulatory requirements.

The Preschool Infant/Toddler Floater will be required to use a cart to move laundry or dishes and use the elevator when moving any item to the second floor.

Many essential duties will be performed in a well-lighted, heated, and/or ventilated indoor setting; some will be performed during daylight areas outdoors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, with occasional loud noises such as crying and city noises.

All teachers will be exposed to biohazards such as human body fluids and will follow all recommended guidelines for health and safety.
