The Project Design Engineer will play a key role in the design and development of new products, as well as improvements to existing products, by performing the following duties. This includes interaction with customers and internal departments to identify and develop new product designs and applications, as well as following new product development (NPD) processes and using engineering expertise in managing NPD projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
o Responding to all quality issues reported by Sales via designated product/project management/tracking tools.
o Analyzing and troubleshooting defective products or situations.
o Coordinating inspection activities, including any required action on inventory and open orders, with various other departments as needed (e.g., quality control, purchasing, engineering and sales) towards resolution of product-related issues.
o Developing, reviewing and finalizing Corrective Action Reports and coordinating submission to the appropriate sales manager and customer to resolve the quality issue at hand.
o Working through the issue resolution process until corrective action is taken and validation has been confirmed.
o Responds to all design specification changes, requested by Sales or reported by Suppliers, via designated product/project management/tracking tools.
o Coordinates review activities with various other departments as needed to ensure that new design specifications are effectively communicated, verified prior to implementation into production, and validated prior to customer delivery.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor degree in mechanical or electrical engineering from a four-year college or university; AND at least two years related experience and/or training; OR equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience in the lighting industry and/or automotive or trailer industry is preferred. Electrical engineering experience a plus.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
None required. Project Management Professional Certification is a plus.
Knowledge
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of and the ability to use the following: CAD Design software, Internet software and Microsoft Office software (Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Experience with inventory management software such as SAP and/or Project Management software preferred.
