Summary
The Project Engineer is responsible for supporting the development, design, costing, proposal preparation, execution, and startup of industrial and municipal water treatment systems for Aries Chemical customers.
This position works closely with Technical Sales, Technical Services, Engineering, Fabrication, Purchasing, vendors, subcontractors, and customers to develop practical, accurate, and technically sound solutions based on customer requirements, field conditions, and project scope.
The Project Engineer plays a critical role in supporting Aries Chemical’s growth by helping convert customer needs into complete engineered proposals and successful project outcomes. Essential Functions
- Project Design and Technical DevelopmentDevelop industrial and municipal water treatment system concepts, layouts, equipment selections, and technical solutions based on customer needs, site conditions, process requirements, and request-for-proposal scope.
- Proposal and Cost DevelopmentPrepare complete, professional, multi-page technical proposals in partnership with Technical Sales and other internal team members. Organize equipment costs, fabrication costs, subcontractor costs, freight, installation requirements, and other project factors to support accurate pricing.
- Vendor RFQ ManagementPrepare and issue requests for quotation to Aries equipment vendors and subcontractors. Review vendor responses, clarify technical details, compare options, and organize information needed for project costing and proposal development.
- Project Scheduling and CoordinationCreate, maintain, and communicate project schedules for assigned engineering and equipment projects. Monitor key deliverables, identify risks or delays, and communicate issues to the appropriate internal stakeholders.
- Technical Sales SupportSupport Aries Technical Sales personnel during customer discussions, site visits, facility surveys, system evaluations, proposal reviews, and project development activities.
- Customer Site Surveys and Field EvaluationTravel to customer locations as needed to evaluate existing facilities, treatment systems, equipment, utilities, process flows, and installation conditions. Document observations and translate field information into project requirements.
- Fabrication and Internal CoordinationWork with Aries fabrication and operations personnel to support the build, assembly, modification, testing, and delivery of water treatment systems and related equipment.
- Subcontractor and Controls CoordinationCoordinate with subcontractors, including controls and PLC providers, installers, and specialty service providers, to support project design, implementation, startup, and customer acceptance.
- System Startup and Commissioning SupportProvide technical support and on-site supervision during system installation, startup, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer handoff.
- Technical DocumentationPrepare and maintain project documentation, including proposals, scopes of work, drawings, equipment lists, vendor quotations, project notes, startup documentation, customer correspondence, and other technical records.
- Quality, Safety, and Compliance SupportEnsure engineering work, project execution, customer site activities, and documentation are completed in accordance with Aries quality standards, customer requirements, applicable regulations, and safe work practices.
- Process Improvement and Standard WorkSupport continuous improvement of Aries project engineering processes, proposal templates, costing methods, project tracking tools, vendor information, and standard engineering practices.

Reporting Structure
This position reports to the Equipment and Systems Group Manager or other designated company leader.
This role works closely with Technical Sales, Engineering, Operations, Fabrication, Purchasing, Customer Service, vendors, subcontractors, and customers.
Work Environment
This role operates in a professional office environment, customer site environments, production and fabrication areas, and field installation/startup locations.
The position requires regular use of standard business technology, engineering documentation, Microsoft Office, communication tools, and other systems used to support project execution.
Travel Requirements
Travel to customer sites and sales territories is required based on project needs, customer requests, field surveys, and system startup requirements.
Typical travel expectations may include:
- Approximately 1 to 2 overnight trips per month, depending on project activity.
- Occasional system startups or commissioning activities that may require up to one week at a customer site.
- Use of an Aries pool vehicle when available.
- Reimbursement for approved business travel expenses in accordance with company policy.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of the position. This may include sitting, standing, walking, typing, reviewing technical documents, traveling by vehicle, walking customer facilities, accessing equipment areas, and participating in system inspections or startup activities.
Customer site work may require use of appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with site-specific safety requirements.

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
- Minimum of five years of related engineering, project engineering, water treatment, process, manufacturing, industrial, municipal, or equipment design experience.
- Ability to apply engineering principles to a variety of customer processes, facilities, and treatment applications.
- Demonstrated ability to develop professional technical proposals, scopes of work, cost estimates, and project documentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving, organization, and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Ability and willingness to travel to customer sites as required.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with industrial water treatment, wastewater treatment, boiler water treatment, cooling water treatment, or related chemical treatment applications.
- Experience with equipment design, fabrication support, system installation, startup, commissioning, or field troubleshooting.
- Experience preparing vendor RFQs and evaluating technical quotations.
- Familiarity with PLC/control systems, instrumentation, pumps, tanks, piping, chemical feed systems, filtration systems, or water treatment equipment.
- Experience working with technical sales teams and supporting customer-facing project development.
- Experience with municipal, industrial, food processing, manufacturing, or utility customers.
- Familiarity with project management tools, ERP/MRP systems, CAD drawings, P&IDs, or technical submittals.
Training and Development
Aries Chemical may provide training and field exposure in areas such as:
- Inspection of Aries chemical and equipment systems at customer sites.
- Field travel with Aries technical personnel during project development and implementation.
- Customer visits with Technical Sales to understand water treatment applications.
- Wastewater bench-scale treatability testing.
- Boiler water treatment fundamentals and controls.
- Cooling water treatment fundamentals and controls.
- Wastewater treatment fundamentals, treatment processes, chemistry, and chemical consumption calculations.
- Aries proposal, costing, project tracking, and standard work processes.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
A valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer locations are required. The employee must be able to comply with Aries Chemical safety policies and customer site safety requirements.
