StataDX is seeking an engineer to lead development of a diagnostic instrument for our microfluidic cartridge platform.

About Us — We are a venture-backed spinout from Harvard’s Wyss Institute working to develop next-generation diagnostic tests to support personalized therapeutic strategies for patients suffering from neurological conditions—e.g., Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic Brain Injury, and Alzheimer’s Disease.

About the Role — We are looking for an experienced engineer to lead development of the diagnostic instrument for our microfluidic cartridge platform. The underlying microfluidic cartridge has already been developed and demonstrated in the laboratory. This role will serve as the technical lead for instrument development, defining system architecture, owning the cartridge-reader interface, and guiding an external engineering design partner responsible for building early prototype instruments. Working closely with a small interdisciplinary team and company leadership, you will ensure the instrument reliably executes the cartridge workflow and supports assay validation. As the platform matures, you will play a central role in shaping the architecture of the system and helping build the company’s internal engineering capability.

What you’ll do:

• Lead development of a diagnostic instrument for a microfluidic cartridge platform
• Define and validate the instrument-cartridge mechanical, pneumatic, & thermal interfaces
• Serve as the primary technical lead working with an external engineering design firm
• Collaborate with assay scientists to automate microfluidic workflows

What you’ll need:

• Degree in systems engineering, biomedical engineering, or related discipline
• Experience in the development of diagnostic or life science instrumentation
• Experience with integrated systems involving microfluidics, mechanics, & electronics

Desirable Skills:

• Experience with microfluidic systems or cartridge-based diagnostics
• Experience with early-stage hardware development in startup environments
• Track record working with external engineering design & contract manufacturing firms

This is a full-time, in-person position based in our facility in Boston University Photonics Center’s Business Innovation Center.

Pay: $8,000.00 - $12,000.00 per month
