The mission of Mother Africa is to support African refugee and immigrant women and their families to reach their highest potential. Mother Africa is committed to leadership building, advocacy, and community action to navigate and overcome barriers to accessing healthcare, education, safety, and economic independence while fostering an empowering environment that celebrates cultural diversity, families, and socio-economic growth. We have been working in the South King County area since 2012 and have a strong record of community- led projects and programs.
ROLE DESCRIPTION:
A Summer Camp Counselor provides leadership and guidance for a group of campers, ensuring a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the Mother Africa mission to support African refugee and immigrant women and their families to reach their highest potential. We are committed to leadership building, advocacy and community action to reduce barriers to healthcare, education, safety and economic independence while fostering a comfortable space to celebrate our cultures, our families, and our growth. A Summer Camp Counselor creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Under the direction of the Youth Coordinator, the Summer Camp Counselor will be responsible for assisting with the planning, development and implementation of program activities.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:
A Summer Camp Counselor must be proactive, energetic, great with youth, and possess strong communication and organizational skills. Must have the ability to maintain control of an area even when distracted by noise or activity, and work with a diverse group of youth. Must have experience leading youth activities.

This position requires a person who is able to work in a bustling environment, with vibrant energy, many distractions and a great deal of laughter and joy. Supervision of youth members is an integral part of our work. Summer Camp Counselors must be able to plan and implement activities in-person using a variety of resources and tools. Safety is of the utmost of importance, thus planning and preparing is paramount. The duties of a Camp Counselor will be for activities outside in varying weather conditions; you may be exposed to sunny, wet, or humid conditions outside of your immediate control.
