As a Fiber Optics Technician, you will play a critical role in the precision assembly, integration, and performance validation of complex optical systems. You will leverage your expertise in fiber handling and measurement to ensure the integrity of high-performance networks, contributing directly to the reliability of our advanced research and manufacturing initiatives.

• Execute the precise routing, splicing, and testing of thousands of fiber strands to maintain optimal signal performance.
• Perform mechanical integration of fiber assemblies, including the installation of protective enclosures and passthrough flanges.
• Apply specialized composite or polymer wrappings to secure fiber systems against environmental stressors.
• Mentor junior staff on best practices for fiber installation, measurement, and splicing to elevate team technical standards.
• Develop and refine safety protocols for laser and fiber optic operations to minimize industrial hazards.
• Support both production and R&D objectives by delivering high-quality, reliable fiber optic solutions.

Required Skills

• 4+ years of hands-on experience in fiber optics applications.
• Proficiency in taking attenuation, insertion loss, and spectral analysis measurements using OTDR, OSA, OBR, and power meters.
• Demonstrated expertise in fiber handling within controlled laboratory environments.
• Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting up to 50 lbs, working in confined spaces, and operating at heights.
• Strong commitment to safety protocols involving cryogenics, high voltage, and other industrial hazards.

Preferred Skills

• 7+ years of experience in advanced fiber optics field applications.
• Experience with distributed sensing arrays and specialty coated fibers, including polyimide.
• Background in designing and testing cable assemblies for vacuum or cryogenic conditions.
• Proficiency in fiber re-coating, proof-testing, and complex splicing techniques.
• Familiarity with optical interrogators, multiplexers, and fault locators.
