Overview: The Clinical/Outreach Licensed Athletic Trainer provides athletic training services to school athletes while also supporting patient care within a sports medicine or orthopedic clinical setting. This role focuses on injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries, as well as collaboration with physicians, coaches, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe participation in sports.

Status: Full-time, Exempt

Work Schedule: Clinical and Surgical are primarily weekdays, Monday - Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM; early start times may be required for surgical cases. Athletic training coverage at assigned school(s) and events, weekdays, weekends, days, and nights.

Reports To: Supervising physician(s) and Clinical Operations Manager

Responsibilities:

• Prepare patients for physician visits by collecting vitals, obtaining brief medical histories, performing basic assessments, and coordinating imaging under physician or mid-level direction.
• Document patient encounters, treatments, and communications accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Assist physicians and mid-level providers with injections, casting, splinting, and minor procedures.
• Apply and remove braces, casts, splints, dressings, slings, boots, and sutures as appropriate.
• Provide patient education on home exercise programs, injury management, and treatment plans.
• Serve as a second surgical assistant for supervising physicians at approved hospitals or surgical centers.
• Provide athletic training coverage for assigned schools, including injury evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation guidance, emergency care, and return-to-play coordination in collaboration with supervising physicians.
• Maintain injury documentation, treatment records, concussion testing (IMPACT) administration, and compliance reporting.
• Communicate with athletes, parents, coaches, school staff, and healthcare providers regarding injury status and care plans.
• Maintain athletic training facilities, supplies, and equipment, and oversee athletic training students or observers when applicable.
• Support clinic operations by preparing lab specimens, stocking and cleaning exam rooms, and managing patient calls or messages as directed.
• Follow all infection control standards, OSHA regulations, and HIPAA privacy requirements.

Qualification:

• Master’s degree in Athletic Training
• NATA-BOC certification
• Wisconsin state license
• Current BLS certification
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to assist athletes/patients on and off fields or exam tables
• Good manual dexterity and visual acuity
• Maintain confidentiality
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Possible exposure to blood, infectious diseases, odors, and environmental conditions
• Ability to stand, walk, and move quickly on athletic fields or courts
• Adequate vision and hearing (with or without correction)
• Ability to lift and transport medical equipment (up to 50 lbs.)
• Travel required
