Construction Production Systems Manager
Allison-Smith Company is seeking an experienced Construction Production Systems Manager to develop and implement standardized planning, productivity measurement, and continuous improvement systems that increase field performance across our projects.
This is a strategic leadership role responsible for designing and implementing a scalable production system that brings manufacturing-level efficiency, predictability, and operational excellence to commercial construction.
The Construction Production Systems Manager will work closely with executive leadership, project management, field operations, preconstruction, safety, logistics, and training teams to establish the standards, processes, performance metrics, and accountability systems that improve productivity, reduce waste, and create consistent project execution.
Primary Responsibilities:
Production System Design & Development:
- Design and implement a comprehensive Field Production System based on Lean Construction and operational excellence principles.
Apply Lean methodologies including:
- Standard Work
- Takt Planning
- Visual Management
- PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act)
- Continuous Improvement
Develop standardized production tools and processes, including:
- Daily Task Cards
- Crew Scorecards
- Weekly Production Dashboards
- Takt Zone Plans and Flow Maps
- Continuous Improvement Logs
Establish standard work instructions and measurable performance benchmarks for key construction activities.
Collaborate with project teams to improve workflow layouts, sequencing, zone planning, and production flow.
Implementation & Field Integration:
- Lead pilot implementation of the production system on selected projects.
- Train and coach project managers, superintendents, foremen, and field leaders on productivity systems and Lean practices.
- Facilitate daily production huddles and weekly performance reviews.
- Establish accountability routines that improve planning reliability and field execution.
- Develop data collection processes to measure productivity and identify improvement opportunities.
Performance Measurement & Continuous Improvement:
- Develop and manage production dashboards tracking key performance indicators, including:
- Labor productivity
- Crew utilization
- Schedule performance
- Production flow
- Rework rates
- Downtime
- Analyze workflow constraints and production inefficiencies.
- Conduct root cause analysis and lead corrective action initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement through structured problem-solving and lessons learned.
- Lead post-project reviews to improve future project execution.
Cross-Functional Leadership:
- Partner with operations, project management, preconstruction, safety, logistics, and training teams.
- Integrate production systems into scheduling, procurement, and project execution processes.
- Support preconstruction teams with productivity data and operational insights.
- Develop training materials and implementation resources for field leaders.
Required Experience:
- 7+ years of experience in commercial or industrial construction, field operations, production planning, operational excellence, or process improvement.
- Proven experience implementing Lean Construction, productivity improvement, or operational improvement initiatives.
- Strong understanding of construction scheduling, crew management, workflow optimization, and field production processes.
- Experience developing standard work, operating procedures, workflow documentation, and performance measurement systems.
- Demonstrated success leading cross-functional teams and implementing organizational change.
- Strong analytical, communication, facilitation, and coaching skills.
- Ability to work effectively with executive leadership, project teams, and field personnel.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on operational improvement leader with experience in designing and implementing Lean-based production systems that improve productivity, consistency, and execution with:
- Proven experience implementing Lean, continuous improvement, operational excellence, or production systems in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, or similar environments.
- Strong ability to develop standard work, workflow processes, performance metrics, and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Experience analyzing operations, identifying constraints, driving root cause solutions, and delivering measurable improvements.
- Ability to coach field teams, lead change adoption, and translate improvement strategies into practical daily execution.
- Proficiency with productivity measurement, dashboards, and tools such as Excel, Power BI, construction management software, or equivalent systems.
- Strong understanding of construction workflows, production planning, and Lean principles such as Takt Planning, Last Planner, and continuous improvement (preferred).

Within the first 12–18 months, you will:
- Design and implement a standardized Field Production System adopted across Allison-Smith projects.
- Establish standard work, production planning tools, workflow maps, and crew performance standards that improve consistency and execution.
- Develop live production dashboards that provide actionable visibility into labor productivity, crew utilization, schedule performance, and rework.
- Successfully implement Lean Construction practices, including Takt Planning, Last Planner System concepts, visual management, and continuous improvement routines.
- Improve field productivity while reducing waste, rework, downtime, and schedule variability.
- Create a culture of accountability through daily huddles, weekly production reviews, and data-driven decision-making.
- Build sustainable improvement processes that empower field leaders to identify problems, implement solutions, and share best practices.
- Deliver a comprehensive Production Playbook and training program that standardizes planning, execution, and performance measurement.
