Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Shop Optimization Intern to support initiatives that improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and organization within our shop operations. This role offers hands-on experience analyzing workflows, identifying improvement opportunities, and assisting with projects that enhance operational performance.

The ideal candidate is analytical, proactive, and interested in manufacturing, operations, industrial engineering, lean processes, or continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

• Observe and document current shop processes and workflows.
• Collect and analyze operational data related to productivity, quality, downtime, and throughput.
• Assist in identifying bottlenecks and inefficiencies within shop operations.
• Support implementation of process improvement initiatives using Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement principles.
• Develop and maintain visual management tools, process maps, and standard work documentation.
• Collaborate with supervisors and shop personnel to gather feedback and evaluate process changes.
• Assist with inventory organization, material flow improvements, and workspace optimization projects.
• Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for management.
• Participate in safety, quality, and operational improvement meetings.
• Perform additional duties related to shop efficiency and operational excellence as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• Currently pursuing an Associate's, Bachelor's, technical degree, or have relevant experience in:
• Industrial Engineering
• Manufacturing Engineering
• Operations Management
• Mechanical Engineering
• Supply Chain Management
• Business Analytics
• Related field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data analysis.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred

• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Kaizen, or Six Sigma concepts.
• Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, machine shop, warehouse, or production environment.
• Knowledge of process mapping and workflow analysis.
