Purchasing Manager
Multi-location residential and commercial garage door installation, replacement, and service organization
Build and lead a scalable purchasing function that improves vendor performance, material availability, purchasing controls, and company-wide cost efficiency.
Position Overview
We are seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead procurement and vendor management for a growing, multi-location residential and commercial garage door installation and service company.
This role will oversee the purchasing of custom job materials, stocked inventory, service parts, installation supplies, equipment, and indirect services. The Purchasing Manager will build scalable purchasing processes, strengthen vendor relationships, improve material availability, and identify meaningful cost-saving opportunities across the organization.
The ideal candidate combines strong negotiation and analytical skills with a practical understanding of branch operations, inventory, warehousing, construction, installation, or field service environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Own company-wide purchasing policies, procedures, controls, and approval requirements.
- Manage strategic vendor relationships and negotiate pricing, rebates, payment terms, freight, lead times, warranties, and service expectations.
- Analyze organizational spending and identify opportunities to reduce costs, consolidate vendors, and improve purchasing leverage.
- Oversee purchasing for custom materials, stocked products, service parts, equipment, supplies, and indirect services.
- Partner with branch, warehouse, service, sales, and operations teams to ensure materials are available when needed.
- Establish preferred vendor programs and reduce unnecessary variation in vendors, products, and services.
- Monitor open purchase orders, overdue deliveries, purchase price variances, receiving discrepancies, and invoice-matching issues.
- Support inventory planning, stocking levels, warehouse transfers, and the reduction of excess or obsolete inventory.
- Maintain accurate vendor pricing, lead times, preferred suppliers, and purchasing-related item data within the ERP system.
- Develop vendor scorecards and track savings, delivery performance, quality, fill rates, and service levels.
- Support the integration of acquired businesses into company purchasing programs and negotiated vendor agreements.
- Train employees on purchasing policies, systems, and approved buying processes.
Qualifications
- Five or more years of purchasing, procurement, sourcing, supply chain, or vendor management experience.
- Experience in a multi-location, construction, installation, distribution, field service, home services, or branch-based organization.
- Demonstrated success negotiating vendor agreements and delivering measurable cost savings.
- Experience purchasing a mix of stocked inventory, custom materials, service parts, supplies, equipment, and contracted services.
- Strong analytical, organizational, negotiation, and vendor-management skills.
- Proficiency with Excel and ERP, inventory, purchasing, or warehouse management systems.
- Ability to balance purchasing controls with the needs of a fast-paced service and installation business.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to influence operational and branch leaders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in garage doors, building products, specialty contracting, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, construction materials, or a related industry.
- Experience supporting multiple warehouses or branch locations.
- Experience in a private equity-backed or acquisition-oriented organization.
- Familiarity with Acumatica or a comparable ERP platform.
- Experience with item master management, purchase order controls, inventory planning, and three-way invoice matching.
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, business, finance, operations, or a related field.

- Increased use of approved vendors and purchase orders
- Reduced emergency purchases and expedited freight
- Improved material availability and vendor delivery performance
- Greater consistency across branches and warehouses
