Position Summary
The Civil Construction Purchasing Agent will play a critical role in supporting our operations by sourcing materials, creating detailed material takeoffs, negotiating pricing, managing inventory, and coordinating with project teams to keep projects moving efficiently.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, possesses exceptional attention to detail, and can maintain a strong sense of urgency while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
This position is primarily office-based but will work closely with field personnel, project managers, estimators, and vendors.
Key Responsibilities
· Review plans and specifications to perform detailed blueprint takeoffs.
· Develop accurate and comprehensive material lists for civil construction projects.
· Procure materials, equipment, and services necessary for project execution.
· Solicit bids and negotiate favorable pricing, terms, and delivery schedules from suppliers and subcontractors.
· Maintain strong vendor relationships and identify cost-saving opportunities.
· Utilize HCSS software to support purchasing and project operations.
· Coordinate material deliveries to align with project schedules.
· Assist estimators and project managers during large bid opportunities.
· Maintain on-site and in-house parts inventory.
· Pick and distribute materials from company inventory as required.
· Track purchases, deliveries, and inventory levels to ensure operational efficiency.
· Support continuous process improvements within purchasing and inventory management.
Required QualificationsMust-Have Skills & Experience
· Minimum 4–5 years of civil construction experience.
· Proven ability to perform blueprint takeoffs and develop detailed material takeoff lists.
· Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
· Experience using HCSS software.
· Strong understanding of civil construction materials, equipment, and procurement processes.
· Exceptional organizational and communication skills.
· Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with project teams.
· Extreme attention to detail while maintaining a high level of urgency and responsiveness.
Preferred Experience
Preference will be given to candidates with backgrounds in:
· Underground utility and pipework construction.
· Civil construction estimating.
· Project management.
· Field operations related to sitework, utility, drainage, water, sewer, or infrastructure construction.
Preferred (Nice-to-Have) Qualifications
· Fleet management experience.
· Experience with Viewpoint/Vista Accounting Software.
· Inventory and warehouse management experience.
· Equipment maintenance tracking and scheduling experience.
· Leadership skills and the ability to assume additional operational responsibilities.
