Inpria, a subsidiary of JSR Corporation, has an immediate opening for a Controls Engineer II in Corvallis, OR. This hands-on position is responsible for developing and improving control systems for new and existing equipment in our pilot and high-volume manufacturing areas, supporting EUV photoresist batch production for semiconductor customers. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can work efficiently and communicate well with the engineering, management and operations teams.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain control logic, safety systems, and process instrumentation to improve reliability and efficiency (PID, loop tuning, interlocks, batch control).
- Design, program, and troubleshoot HMI & SCADA System (Ignition, Novunex, FactoryTalk).
- Design, program, and troubleshoot PLC systems (Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, Unitronics).
- Specify, configure, and commission sensors, actuators, and industrial networks (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, Profibus, OPC, fieldbus, etc.).
- Support startup, commissioning, and validation of new or upgraded equipment.
- Read and develop electrical schematics, P&IDs, and control panel layouts.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting equipment and process control issues.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify opportunities for process improvements.
- Work with cross-functional teams to implement continuous improvement initiatives in automation and controls.
- Work with equipment engineers and vendors to evaluate new equipment for compatibility with existing controls and data acquisition infrastructure.
- Support SCADA to MES integration for new equipment and product recipes
- Support and streamline standard and non-standard formulation batch production.
- Create control plans using process theory of operations.
- Work with production and equipment engineers to develop and update process and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
- Work in cleanroom environments and practice clean handling procedures to minimize contamination.
- Support manufacturing team on first response to equipment downtime.
- Investigate system performance, cycle time, ageing, and loading to predict failures.
- Understand normal and abnormal system operation and analyze sensor data to determine root cause of failures.
- Follow, update, and create written SOPs and process instructions.
- Modify equipment drawings and CAD files with revision control.
- Follow safe work practices including wearing PPE.
- Analyze data using statistical control methods, respond to process deviations, and report findings to relevant teams.
- Use quality management systems to escalate process deviations to material review board.
- Provide on-call engineering support in rotation with engineering team during evenings and/or weekends, pending business needs.
- Other duties as assigned.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in controls, electrical, mechanical or chemical engineering with a minimum of 2 years experience supporting production and/or controls and automation.
- Working knowledge of MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint and web-based platforms.
- Demonstrates good chemical hygiene, safe laboratory practices; recognizes hazardous conditions and addresses them.
- Well organized, proactive, enthusiastic, flexible, quality-minded, and eager to learn
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, willingness to support off-shift hours through engineer-on-call rotation.
- Demonstration of active and effective communication skills, verbal, and written.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States now and in the future without the need for employer sponsorship.
- Ability to successfully complete a pre-employment drug test.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to use a keyboard and mouse for computer data entry and/or analysis, and for presenting data.
- Ability to wear a respirator (upon training/certification) for processes where required.
- Ability to wear standard cleanroom attire in areas that require it.
- Ability to wear standard PPE in areas that require it.
- Ability to work in a production environment for long periods of time.
- Ability to move full 55-gallon drums with appropriate equipment.
- Ability to use a glovebox with thick rubber gloves to accurately pour, pipet, mix, and handle chemicals in small vials or bottles.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery, including, but not limited to forklifts and drum lifters.
- 40 hours/week or more
- Ability to lift 40 pounds from floor to table height.
- Ability to use a hand truck, drum lifter, and pallet jack to transport heavy objects.
- Ability to sit and/or stand in one place for extended periods.
- Physical activities include using hand tools, bending, stooping, pushing, lifting, climbing stairs, carrying, walking and/or reaching on a frequent basis.
- Ability to precisely handle small bottles, packages, labels, and other materials.
- Travel to vendors or to Inpria’s Beaverton, OR office (<5%).
