Position Summary
Note: must be in a 30 minute commuting rage
We are seeking a versatile, detail-oriented Woodworking & Manufacturing Technician to support our mill, CNC, finishing, and final-assembly operations. This is a hands-on role for a skilled craftsperson who can move between workstations as production needs change—keeping work flowing, eliminating bottlenecks, and holding consistently high quality and tight tolerances. Depending on experience, the position can be filled at an entry (shop-assistant) level with on-the-job development or at a skilled technician level. The ideal candidate brings strong mechanical aptitude, a sharp eye for detail, and a reliable, safety-first work ethic.
Key Responsibilities
Mill & Fabrication
- Float between the mill and assembly departments based on production needs, prioritizing workflow efficiency and throughput.
- Perform precision cutting, fitting, and fabrication of wood components to exact specifications.
- Read and interpret shop drawings, cut lists, and written work instructions accurately.
- Apply proper sanding techniques on raw materials (hardwoods and veneers) as well as sealed products.
- Continually develop and apply milling techniques that improve product quality and efficiency.
CNC Operation
- Set up and operate CNC machines: zero the machine, set origins, modify Z-depth, and zero out tools.
- Load and run CNC programs efficiently to keep pace with production demand.
- Perform basic troubleshooting, escalating more complex issues for input as needed.
- Maintain blades and tooling and manage defects to minimize waste and rework.
Finishing (a strong plus / specialty track)
- Skilled operation of an HVLP spray gun for both standard and high-gloss wood finishing.
- Experience with water-based finish products preferred.
- Properly sand and prepare raw and sealed surfaces to achieve a flawless finish.
- Maintain finishing equipment, including proper cleaning of spray guns.
Assembly
- Assist in the fabrication and assembly of products according to specifications.
- Stage, kit, and prepare components for final assembly; ensure all parts are available and ready for use.
- Support the assembly line to meet production goals and deadlines.
Quality, Safety & Continuous Improvement
- Ensure all parts and assemblies meet quality standards and dimensional tolerances of ±1/32″.
- Inspect work for accuracy, dimensions, and surface finish; identify, document, and communicate material defects or process issues.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area—sweep and return tools and items to their place.
- Follow all safety protocols and maintain safe working conditions at all times.
- Propose improvement ideas with clear pros, cons, and expected benefits; help identify inefficiencies and solutions.
General & Team (skilled level)
- Work with minimal supervision; make sound basic decisions and recognize when to escalate.
