Summary
The CNC Programmer is responsible for programming and optimising CNC machining operations across a variety of advanced manufacturing equipment. Working closely with Machinists, Manufacturing Engineers, Design Engineers, and other technical teams, the successful candidate will drive productivity improvements, optimise machining strategies, and ensure the efficient production of high-quality components.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive CNC programming experience, strong problem-solving skills, and a deep understanding of multi-axis machining processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Create CNC programs using CAM software for 3-axis, 4-axis, and 5-axis CNC lathes, mills, and machining centres.
- Generate and maintain machining programs and setup documentation within a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
- Select appropriate tooling for machining complex components across a range of materials, including difficult-to-machine alloys.
- Optimise cutting speeds, feeds, and machining strategies to maximise tool life and machining efficiency.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to improve manufacturability and enhance CNC programming methods.
- Design and develop fixture tooling where required to support production needs.
- Support production targets and maintain high standards of quality and productivity.
- Contribute ideas for process improvement, efficiency gains, and cost reduction.
- Perform machining simulations using verification software to validate programs, estimate cycle times, and minimise collision risks.
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification.
- 6–10 years of CNC programming experience using industry-standard CAM software.
- Proven experience programming and supporting 5-axis CNC machining operations.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, fixturing, and manufacturing processes.
Preferred
- Experience with Mastercam or similar CAM software.
- Experience programming and supporting multi-axis milling and turning equipment.
- Familiarity with leading CNC machine platforms and controls.
- Experience working with ERP/MRP systems within a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and manufacturing specifications.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs (11 kg) without assistance.
- Role may require standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling throughout the working day.
- Flexibility to work overtime and occasional weekend shifts as required to meet business needs.
