Overview
Prospector Plumbing & Heating is currently hiring for a Plumbing and Heating Technician positions in the Mat-Su Valley (our shop is located in Wasilla). All applicants MUST hold a current Alaska Journeyman Plumber License to be considered for full technician placement. This role will include a company-provided work vehicle.

In this energetic role, you will troubleshoot, repair, maintain, and install plumbing systems, HVAC equipment, and related mechanical components. Your expertise will ensure efficient operation, safety, and compliance with industry standards while providing exceptional service to our customers.
The skill categories outlined below represent the core technical competencies required to succeed at Prospector Plumbing & Heating. These expectations define:
Hydronics
- Install, service, and troubleshoot boilers (oil-fired and natural gas).
- Design and install primary/secondary piping and pump configurations.
- Diagnose and repair circulation pumps, zone valves, expansion tanks, and controls.
- Perform system flushes, water treatment, and efficiency tuning.
- Understand hydronic control wiring and integration with thermostats, triple aquastats, etc.
Plumbing
- Diagnose and repair leaks, clogs, and water pressure issues.
- Install water heaters (tank and tankless), fixtures, and water filtration systems.
- Perform whole-home re-pipes and plumbing system installations.
- Demo / replace residential and light commercial sewer lines (up to septic)
- Operate drain cleaning equipment (cables, jetters, cameras) for all pipe sizes.
- Read and interpret plumbing blueprints, codes, and specifications.
Forced Air
- Install and service forced air systems (furnace (gas, oil, and electric), heat pump, mini-split, central AC).
- Maintain and repair ductwork, air handlers, and ventilation systems.
- Diagnose and replace blower motors, burners, heat exchangers, and controls.
- Perform combustion analysis, airflow balancing, and efficiency checks.
- Service and install basic AC and heat pump systems.
General Electrical
- Low voltage wiring for thermostats, controls, relays
- Running / terminating electrical whip connections from an existing breaker panel to a unit (furnace, boiler, water heater, heat pump, circ pumps, mini-split, etc.).
- Installing or replacing disconnect switches for HVAC or plumbing equipment.
- Wiring motors, pumps, fans, and other components to line-voltage supply.
- Verifying proper voltage supply and grounding for new installations.

Pay: $50.00 - $65.00 per hour
