Job Function
The Special Education Teacher supports students with disabilities in achieving their learning goals, often developing individualized education programs (IEPs) and adapting curriculum to meet diverse needs. This individual works closely with students, parents, and other educators to create inclusive and supportive learning environments.
Responsibilities
➢ Evaluate students’ academic, social, and emotional needs to identify learning disabilities and develop appropriate interventions.
➢Create and implement IEP’s that outline specific learning goals, accommodations, and modifications tailored to each student’s unique requirements.
➢Support the development and implementation of behavior intervention plans for identified students across all school settings.
➢Modify general education lessons and materials to ensure students with disabilities can access and participate in learning experiences.
➢ Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages student participation, collaboration, and respect consistent with district goals and policies.
➢Supervise, schedule, and support Special Education paraprofessionals.
➢Organize and structure classroom space to account for safety and accountability.
➢Utilize current educational technologies to enhance student learning.
➢Monitor and evaluate progress of all students, collect data, and adjust instruction and interventions as needed.
➢Maintain open communication with parents or guardians regarding student progress, needs, and supports.
➢ Keep updated records and reports as related to the special education program.
➢ Collaborate with general education teachers, parents, school psychologists, paraprofessionals, and related providers to ensure students receive comprehensive support.
➢ Contribute to school-wide efforts to maintain a safe, supportive learning environment.
➢Participate in school and district meetings, professional development, and committees as required.
Qualifications
Strong knowledge about standards-based education and strategies for implementation as well in depth understanding of assessment, behavior management, and curriculum modification. Ability to establish and maintain relations with the school community. Possesses skills needed to maintain a positive classroom environment utilizing consistent procedures and expectations.
Education and Experience
1. Bachelor’s Degree with valid Education Specialist Instruction Credential and AASE-Autism Certificate
2. CLAD or Alternative Credential/Certification

Compensation
➢Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications, in alignment with the Pollock Pines Elementary School District Certificated Salary Schedule.
➢Annual Stipend for advanced Masters/Doctorate degrees.
➢Benefits include health, dental and vision insurance as well as participation in the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).
