Job Title: Purchasing Agent
Position Summary
Wayne Combustion Systems, a Beckett Company, is hiring a Purchasing Agent in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Founded in 1928, Wayne has spent nearly a century engineering and manufacturing oil and gas burners used across industries ranging from commercial HVAC and boilers to food service equipment, portable heat, industrial ovens and incinerators, pressure washers, and export markets worldwide. This role manages raw material, component, finished assemblies and services purchased from suppliers and contract manufacturers. For assigned commodities, the Purchasing Agent owns all supplier activities including identification, request for quotation and negotiation, while also researching, creating, and expediting purchase orders, processing requisitions, and maintaining related records.
Key Responsibilities

Manages the supply of purchased components and raw materials for assigned commodities using ERP or MRP system, other information systems (supplier schedules and discrete purchase orders) as well as off-line systems like Kanban Systems.

Identifies and selects alternative vendor sources to fill orders as needed.

Negotiates the best price with suppliers considering the total cost of acquisition including, but not limited to, price, delivery, quality and support.

Contributes to cost reduction initiatives in purchased components while maintaining appropriate quality standards and inventory levels.

Establishes basic cost parameters by comparing like products and commodities and consolidates like materials to obtain best volume-based pricing.

Reviews and/or creates requisitions, purchase orders for accuracy and conformance with established policies and procedures.

Ensures that relevant Engineering Standards, Material Specifications, Drawings and First Article Inspection or PPAP procedures are clearly communicated to suppliers.

Works with shipping/receiving department to review documents to validate and confirm quantity and content of received goods.

Obtains oral and/or written quotations from vendors and makes purchasing decisions based on information obtained.

Expedites purchase orders and notifies departments of the expected delivery date and follows up on back orders.

Meets with vendors seeking to establish relationships with the organization. Reviews materials presented and forwards the information to the appropriate purchasing agent or decision-maker along with recommendation of course of action with vendor.
Experience

3+ years of professional experience in a buyer/planner role; preferably in a manufacturing environment

Working knowledge of ERP and WMS systems strongly preferred
Education – Bachelor’s degree in supply chain and/or business
Licenses & Certifications – APICS, CPIM, CPSM or similar certification preferred
