About the MDBA
The Murray–Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) is an independent statutory agency in the Australian Government, which operates under the Water Act 2007 (Cth) (the Water Act). We work with Basin states, industries and communities to manage the Murray–Darling Basin’s water resources.

The MDBA aims to achieve a healthy working Basin for the benefit of all Australians. The Murray–Darling Basin contains a rich diversity of natural environments that are unique in Australia and the world. The Basin is also crucial to Australia’s economy and home to 2.3 million Australians, including people from over 50 First Nations. How we manage the Basin as a whole connected system, manage our water carefully, and protect it for future generations is set out in the Murray-Darling Basin Plan.

The register
The General Temporary Employment Register is open to eligible applicants to express their interest in non-ongoing employment opportunities with the MDBA. The Register supports the MDBA in accessing suitable individuals to fill a variety of vacant employment opportunities across various classifications and business areas, at short notice.

These roles are offered on a temporary basis only (non-ongoing specified term or specified task), with an initial period of up to 12 months, and the possibility of one extension to a maximum period of 18 months total duration. Ongoing engagement and promotion under the Public Service Act 1999 is not possible through this register.

You will only be contacted if a suitable vacancy, that matches your skills and experiences, arises. Submitting an application on this register does not guarantee an offer of employment with the MDBA.

Applications remain active until 30 June 2027.

Eligibility
To be eligible for temporary employment with the MDBA, candidates are subject to pre-employment screening requirements, which may include:

• • Australian citizenship – as per section 22(8) of the Public Service Act 1999.
  • Undergoing and satisfying a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (NCCHC) and identity verification check.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the appropriate level applicable to the position.
