We work with blue-chip clients across financial services, technology, and corporate real estate, delivering AV infrastructure across 74 countries through our UK, EU and US entities.

We're expanding our on-the-ground capability in the United States and are looking for an experienced, self-sufficient Commissioning Engineer to join us on a retained part-time basis.

The Engagement

This is a part-time retained role, not a full-time job. We'll guarantee you a fixed number of days per month ([X] days - to be agreed) covering commissioning, maintenance visits and client support across our US client base. On top of the retainer, there will be additional project work as our US pipeline demands - installs, fit-outs and room refreshes - offered to you first at an agreed day rate.

It's a structure that suits someone who already freelances or contracts and wants a reliable baseline of guaranteed income each month, with the option to take on more when the work is there. You stay independent, keep your other clients, and we get a trusted engineer on the ground in New York.

The Role

We need a Senior Commissioning Engineer based in New York to commission, support and maintain AV and video conferencing systems for our US client base, with occasional travel to project sites elsewhere in the US. You'll be our go-to technical resource stateside - working independently on-site, liaising directly with clients, and ensuring our installations meet the high standards our clients expect.

You don't need to be a programmer - we're after someone who can take a system from installed to fully working: configuring, tuning, testing and handing over. That said, this isn't a clipboard-only role. When a project needs an extra pair of hands on the install - hanging displays, terminating cable, building racks - you're happy to get stuck in.

This isn't a role where you'll be micromanaged. You'll be trusted to manage your own schedule, troubleshoot on the fly, and represent Indigo Forward professionally with some of the biggest names in finance and tech.

What You'll Be Doing

• Commissioning commercial AV and video conferencing systems - configuration, DSP tuning, endpoint setup, testing and sign-off
• Loading and configuring control and audio platforms (Q-SYS, Crestron) - working with code and configs supplied by our programming team
• Commissioning VC rooms across Microsoft Teams Rooms, Zoom Rooms and native platforms (Logitech, Cisco, Poly)
• Supporting installation works where needed - displays, racks, cabling, terminations
• Carrying out scheduled maintenance and reactive support under our service contracts
• First-line fault diagnosis and resolution - getting systems back online quickly
• Coordinating with our UK-based project and support teams
• Producing handover documentation, as-builts, and commissioning reports
• Building strong relationships with client facilities and IT teams

What We're Looking For

Technical Skills - Non-Negotiable:

• Strong commissioning experience across commercial AV and VC systems - minimum, you can commission a VC room end to end
• Confident with Q-SYS and Crestron at commissioning level - loading files, configuring, fault-finding (you don't need to write the code)
• Strong hands-on experience with Logitech, Cisco, and Poly video conferencing platforms
• Solid understanding of AV signal flow, networking fundamentals (VLANs, IP addressing, PoE), and rack integration
• Comfortable with DSP configuration, audio tuning and system testing

Experience:

• Significant commercial AV experience - corporate boardrooms, huddle spaces, large meeting rooms, auditoriums
• Track record of working with prestigious clients in enterprise environments
• Experience working independently on client sites in Manhattan and the wider metro area without constant supervision
• Comfortable with installation engineering when the project calls for it

Working Style:

• Contractor mindset - you invoice, we pay
• Set up to work as a 1099 contractor or through your own LLC (W-9 on file, own insurance/COI preferred)
• Able to commit to a guaranteed number of days each month, with flexibility to take on additional project days
• Willing to travel within the US for project work on occasion
• Own transport and tools preferred
• Authorised to work in the US

Certifications (Desirable):

• Q-SYS Level 1/2
• Crestron certifications
• Cisco/Poly/Logitech certifications
• AVIXA CTS or CTS-I
• OSHA 10/30 (useful for Manhattan commercial sites)
