Summary
We are seeking a dedicated Operations Manager to lead our team at GES Recycling in the United States. This pivotal role involves overseeing daily operations to ensure efficient scrap metal processing and waste management aligned with our company's mission of sustainable recycling practices.
Responsibilities
Logistics & Transportation
- Coordinate barge ordering, scheduling, dispatching, and reporting utilizing Navision and the Big River Portal.
- Schedule aluminum deliveries and coordinate customer delivery appointments.
- Obtain and manage customer purchase orders (POs) for outbound shipments.
- Review barge loading schedules to maximize transportation efficiency and throughput.
- Manage relationships with storage yard partners to ensure adequate inventory capacity and material flow.
Customer & Material Management
- Oversee scrap and waste management programs for Gestamp and GTU facilities.
- Coordinate the removal and disposition of special project materials for key customers.
- Ensure timely communication with customers regarding shipments, scheduling, and project completion.
Financial & Administrative Responsibilities
- Partner with the Accounts Payable department to reconcile current and outstanding invoices.
- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly operational and profit & loss (P&L) reports.
- Monitor operational costs and identify opportunities for improved efficiency and cost reduction.
- Maintain accurate operational records and reporting documentation.
Vendor & Asset Management
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with service providers and contractors.
- Coordinate equipment repairs and preventative maintenance to maximize equipment uptime and operational reliability.
- Monitor vendor performance and ensure service expectations are consistently achieved.
Leadership
- Process and administer payroll for Virginia and West Virginia operations.
- Conduct employee performance evaluations and provide coaching for continuous improvement.
- Assist in employee development, accountability, and workforce planning.
- Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and operational excellence.
Safety & Compliance
- Maintain ownership of all safety programs, policies, and procedures for assigned operations.
- Lead safety investigations and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety standards, environmental regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement and continuous training.
Qualifications
- Proven management experience within the recycling or manufacturing industry.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate teams.
- Excellent strategic planning and project management capabilities.
- Experience managing budgets and financial performance.
- Knowledge of environmental regulations related to waste management.
- Effective communication skills.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (Navision preferred).
- Professional working proficiency in English; additional language skills are an asset.
