Media Researcher/Assistant Reporter Intern
[ Summary ]
We are looking for a Media Researcher/Assistant Reporter Intern for its Washington
D.C. bureau.
This position is responsible for providing quality reporting, writing, and editorial support to the
bureau chief and correspondents, as well as the administrative support necessary to run the
bureau as a news organization.
[ Essential Duties ]
- In accordance with the bureau chief's instructions, gather information relevant to the
bureau’s news-reporting activities and conduct verification, fact-checking, and follow-up research as needed.
- Research individuals or groups relevant to current events and trending news topics, based on a clear understanding of the needs of the bureau chief, correspondents, and subscribers.
- Prepare comprehensive, easy-to-read summaries of findings and provide actionable recommendations to the bureau chief and correspondents.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key policymakers, government officials, experts, and other influential figures.
- Assist the bureau chief and correspondents in securing interviews with government officials and other key individuals.
- Stay informed on a wide range of U.S. political, economic, social, and cultural issues by attending press conferences, events, and reaching out to key contacts.
- Schedule interviews for the bureau chief and correspondents; collect, analyze, and organize essential data related to those interviews.
- Assist the bureau chief and correspondents with written and oral English communication as needed.
- At the request of the bureau chief or correspondents, locate interviewees, conduct initial interviews on their behalf, and provide detailed feedback on the results.
- Understand and stay aligned with the our Group’s editorial direction; engage in
proactive networking to help the organization stay competitive and enhance content quality.
- Collect and organize data from a variety of sources, including newspapers, magazines, television broadcasts, blogs, and online platforms.
- Maintain an up-to-date contact list of government officials, industry leaders, and other relevant individuals.
- Serve as a liaison between the bureau and external institutions, making necessary arrangements for news-reporting activities, such as securing media passes.
- Collaborate with other correspondents, under the news editor’s direction, to enhance the overall value of our company content and support the execution of the news department’s operations.
- Perform other duties related to the operations of the Washington bureau as required.
