Are you passionate about conservation, wildlife management, and sustainable land stewardship? Dean's Professional Services is seeking a knowledgeable and detail-oriented Associate Rangeland Management Specialist to support a leading land and natural resource management organization in Midland, TX.
In this role, you will help manage the surface estate of approximately 2.1 million acres of Permanent University Fund (PUF) Lands—playing a critical role in preserving natural resources while supporting responsible land use and long-term sustainability.
What You Will Do (Responsibilities):
- Lease & Compliance Management: Monitor compliance with University Lands Flexible Grazing Leases, conduct inspections, prepare reports, and oversee required improvements.
- Rangeland & Wildlife Conservation: Evaluate soil and vegetation health to recommend sustainable grazing practices and stocking rates. Assist with wildlife activities, including aerial helicopter surveys, population assessments, and hunting lease evaluations.
- Project Coordination: Lead grazing, wildlife, and conservation projects utilizing local, state, and federal funding programs. Evaluate and oversee grazing lease improvement applications.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong relationships with grazing lessees, providing guidance on land management. Partner with internal departments and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental and land use policies.
- Surface Operations Support: Monitor oil and gas activities to promote best management practices that minimize environmental impact.
- Data & Mapping: Utilize GIS mapping tools and MS Office to document land resources, analyze data, and prepare reports on resource challenges.
What You Bring (Qualifications):
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resource Management, Wildlife Management, Biology, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
- Experience: Prior experience in rangeland management, wildlife conservation, or natural resource management. (Experience with West Texas land management or oil & gas surface operations is a major plus!)
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with GIS mapping applications and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Core Capabilities: Strong communication and problem-solving skills; ability to interpret legal/lease agreements and develop practical land-use recommendations.
- Travel: Valid Texas driver’s license required. Ability to travel for field inspections, including aerial wildlife surveys.
