Senior React Developer
Employment Type: Full-Time
Work Arrangement: Remote
Compensation: $85,000 — $130,000 CAD / annum
Overview
A software development firm is seeking a Senior React Developer to own the front-end of scalable web platforms built for its clients. This role suits a senior engineer who cares as much about how an interface behaves for the people using it as about how it is built underneath.
You will define front-end architecture, set the standards the team builds against, and take features from planning through release and ongoing improvement — working alongside product managers, designers, backend engineers, and QA within a collaborative delivery environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and build large-scale React applications using functional components, hooks, reusable component patterns, and appropriate state-management solutions.
- Define and maintain the front-end architecture, coding standards, and technical practices the team works against.
- Build responsive, accessible interfaces from product and design requirements, and translate wireframes, prototypes, and design systems into accurate, polished UI.
- Optimize applications for performance, scalability, security, and maintainability.
- Integrate front-ends with REST APIs, third-party services, and backend systems.
- Write clean, documented, reusable code, and maintain unit, integration, component, and end-to-end tests.
- Conduct code reviews and give other engineers direct, constructive technical feedback.
- Diagnose and resolve complex front-end issues across browsers, devices, and environments.
- Contribute to technical planning, solution design, estimation, and architectural decisions.
- Mentor intermediate and junior developers, and advocate for accessibility, usability, and consistency throughout delivery.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional front-end development, with significant experience building React applications.
- Proven experience designing and architecting complex, large-scale React applications.
- Advanced React: hooks, component composition, rendering behavior, context, and reusable design patterns.
- Strong proficiency in modern JavaScript, TypeScript, HTML5, and CSS3.
- Experience with a front-end state-management solution — Redux Toolkit, Zustand, React Query, or similar.
- Working command of performance techniques: memoization, lazy loading, code splitting, caching, bundle and render optimization.
- Experience integrating front-ends with REST APIs and asynchronous services.
- Solid grasp of HTTP, browser rendering, authentication, authorization, and client-side security.
- Experience with modern build tooling: Vite, Webpack, Babel, npm, or Yarn.
- Testing experience with Jest, Vitest, React Testing Library, Cypress, or Playwright.
- Strong Git-based workflows: pull requests, branching strategies, and code reviews.
- Strong understanding of responsive design and cross-browser compatibility.
- Clear communicator who can work independently, manage competing priorities, and contribute within a distributed team.
Preferred Experience
- Next.js and its rendering models — SSR, SSG, server components, and route-based data loading.
- Building or maintaining shared component libraries and design systems.
- Accessibility standards and practices, including WCAG and semantic HTML.
- Cloud-hosted applications on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment workflows.
- API caching and data synchronization with TanStack Query.
- Front-end observability, error tracking, analytics, and performance monitoring.
- Agile or Scrum product development.
- Enterprise SaaS work involving complex workflows, dashboards, data visualization, or role-based access.
- Integration of large language model services (an asset).
What Success Looks Like
- Ships scalable, maintainable, production-ready front-end work.
- Makes sound architectural calls that balance technical quality, delivery timelines, and business priorities.
- Surfaces performance, usability, and maintainability improvements before they become problems.
- Produces interfaces that are reliable, accessible, responsive, and intuitive.
- Lifts the engineers around them through mentorship and thoughtful reviews.
- Explains technical decisions clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders alike.
Engagement Details
- Role type: Full-time.
- Work environment: Remote, with hybrid as project needs require.
