Job Overview
Technical design of fluid and heat transfer systems for projects involving molecular filtration and ancillary support equipment at Food and Dairy production facilities. Maintains MP&C’s integrity, professionalism and profitability during project design and execution. The Process Engineer must exhibit emotional composure, be a logical problem solver, and have a willingness to work with many personality types and individuals of varying technical aptitude to complete successful startups of systems. Must be willing to mentor to co-workers and oversee their work as needed.
Responsibilities
- Work as the assigned Project Manager/Process Engineer to communicate with customers including travel to customers’ facilities for meetings, collection of information for installation, technical process parameters, controls interface, and production downtimes.
- Develop Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) for assigned projects.
- Work with designers to direct and validate designs and accuracy of skids, tanks, other process related mechanical designs
- Perform fluid dynamic and thermodynamic calculations to size pumps, piping, valves, heat exchangers, steam and cooling loads for assigned projects.
- Specify pumps, valves, heat exchangers etc. and prepare requisition forms so these components can be purchased.
- Ensure that contractual scope and specified requirements are met by the process design.
- Must be willing to communicate openly with MP&C team members/customers, in a timely manner, to address technical, operating or fiscal discrepancies.
- Provide detailed overviews and directions to the Automation Department to support control panel design and PLC programming for the assigned project.
- Assist sales in obtaining drawing approvals and informational needs.
- Support Sales and Estimating Departments to provide technical review of proposals, preparation of pre bid P&IDs, and general arrangement drawings. Also assist with technical and cost evaluation of proposals to customers with which a relationship has been established through previous projects.
- Provide an on-site overview and verification of piping installation to ensure it conforms to the P&ID as well as sanitary piping practices.
- Assist in on-site start up, commissioning, and training of customer personnel.
- Work with the MP&C Team or customer to resolve design discrepancies, customer punch lists, and/or warranty issues.
- Must provide sufficient on-site presence for direction of MP&C personnel during installation so that the project schedule and scope stay on track. The amount of time needed on-site will vary depending on the specific project and customer.
- The ability to travel is approximately 35% of the time which will involve overnight stays. Mostly in the regional Midwest but also includes other parts of the U.S. and occasional international locations. Must be able to acquire a Passport.
- Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Requirements
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal personnel and external customers
High level of computer proficiency (MS Office – Word, Excel and Outlook, AutoCAD 2D)
Must be able to maintain composure when under pressure and work with a team to meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive, professional attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices. Must be a self-managing individual that will take ownership of the assigned project.
BS or equal work experience in the process field in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Food Science)
Five (5) or more years of experience in fluid or thermal system/equipment design (helpful if in sanitary food processing).
Pay: $115,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
