JOB DESCRIPTION
Under direction, leads, trains, oversees, and participates in a variety of inspections of residential and commercial sites to enforce building codes and plan review of commercial and residential plans submitted to the Town for structural and non-structural compliance; ensures compliance with applicable laws, codes, standards, policies, ordinances, and regulations; provides a variety of information to property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors; and performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
Receives general supervision from assigned supervisory and/or management personnel. Exercises technical and functional direction over and provides training to lower-level staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICS
This is the advanced journey-level in the Building Inspector/Plans Examiner series. Incumbents organize and oversee the day-to-day work of staff in assigned areas of responsibility and ensure compliance with applicable laws, codes, standards, policies, ordinances, and regulations. Responsibilities include inspecting and attending to assigned areas in a timely manner and performing a wide variety of tasks in building inspection and plans examination. Positions in the classification rely on experience and judgment to perform assigned duties. Assignments are given with general guidelines and incumbents are responsible for establishing objectives, timelines, and methods to complete assignments. Work is typically reviewed upon completion for soundness, appropriateness, and conformity to policy and requirements.
