Hamlet is a venture-backed start-up that transforms public data into accessible insights for both private- and public-sector clients. We are extending our reach into a broader B2B market by equipping real estate professionals with enhanced insights into municipal dynamics, empowering them to identify new opportunities and streamline ongoing projects.

Hamlet was cofounded in late 2022 by a team committed to turning public data into easy-to-understand insights for various audiences. Understanding public data, particularly at the local level, can be arduous. Yet vast amounts of important information are contained in public meetings, public notices, and other documents. Hamlet is committed to turning this information into understandable info for our customers.

The Role

As a Software Engineer at Hamlet, you’ll help build the core systems that power our product — from data ingestion pipelines to customer-facing features. You’ll work across the stack, collaborate closely with a small, high-impact engineering team, and contribute directly to the evolution of our platform. You’ll play a central role in unifying disparate government data into a shared model and making it available through APIs, reporting tools, and new product experiences.

What You’ll Do

• Build Scrapers: Develop reliable scrapers to ingest data from local government sites without public APIs.
• Develop Classifiers & Evals: Build classifiers and evaluation pipelines to identify governing bodies and meetings from continuous data streams.
• Unify Data: Integrate data from diverse sources into a cohesive, structured model.
• Design Customer-Facing Features: Build APIs, reporting tools, and product features that give customers seamless access to unified data.

Requirements

• Experience across the stack, ideally including TypeScript and ReactJS on the frontend and Python on the backend
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/Lambda) and relational databases (PostgreSQL)
• Experience designing systems that unify data from multiple or unstructured sources
• Strong communication skills and comfort working independently and collaboratively
• Nice to have: Experience with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Codex, etc.), agentic AI agents, scaling data processing systems, or website scraping techniques
