Position Summary

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Film & Media Arts Instructor to join our Conservatory faculty on a contract basis for the 2026–2027 school year. This role is responsible for teaching four courses—History of Cinema, Intro to Media, and Editing I on Tuesdays, and Film Club on Wednesdays. The ideal candidate will bring professional media experience, a heart for mentoring young artists, and a commitment to honoring God through storytelling and the visual arts.

Courses TaughtEditing I | Tuesdays 2:05–3:00 PM | Graded Conservatory Course

This graded course introduces high school students to the fundamentals of video editing, including non-linear editing workflows, timeline management, pacing, transitions, color correction, and audio mixing. Students will work with industry-standard editing software to complete hands-on projects ranging from short narratives to documentary-style pieces.

Intro to Media | Tuesdays 1:05–2:00 PM | Graded Conservatory Course

This graded survey course explores the landscape of modern media, including film, photography, digital content creation, and visual storytelling. Students will examine media from a Biblical worldview, learning to think critically about the messages they consume and create. Coursework includes both analytical and creative projects.

Film Club | Wednesdays 3:40–5:10 PM

Film Club provides a collaborative, production-oriented environment where students develop original short films from concept to completion. The instructor will guide students through pre-production planning, cinematography, directing, and post-production, culminating in screenings for the Artios community. A production fee applies.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lesson plans for History of Cinema, Intro to Media, Editing I, and Film Club that align with Artios Academies’ mission and Biblical worldview.
• Teach technical skills including video editing, cinematography, screenwriting fundamentals, and media literacy, as well as film history and critical analysis.
• Assess and grade student work for History of Cinema, Intro to Media, and Editing I per Conservatory grading standards; provide constructive feedback that encourages artistic and personal growth.
• Oversee Film Club productions, guiding students through all phases of filmmaking from concept development to final screening.
• Maintain a positive, Christ-honoring classroom environment that fosters creativity, collaboration, and mutual respect.
• Communicate regularly with students, parents, and the Conservatory Director regarding student progress, class expectations, and production schedules.
• Manage classroom equipment, editing software, and media resources; ensure proper care of school technology.
• Participate in relevant Artios events such as film screenings, open houses, or end-of-year showcases as needed.

Qualifications Required

• A personal, active faith in Jesus Christ and a lifestyle consistent with Biblical principles.
• Agreement with and commitment to Artios Academies’
• Bachelor’s degree in Film, Media Arts, Communications, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
• 2–4 years of experience in film production, video editing, or media arts, with demonstrated proficiency in non-linear editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or Final Cut Pro) and a strong knowledge of cinema history.
• Prior teaching, tutoring, or mentorship experience with high school–aged students.
• Strong communication and classroom management skills.

Preferred

• Experience with cinematography, directing, screenwriting, or sound design.
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (After Effects, Photoshop, Audition) or equivalent tools.
• A portfolio or reel demonstrating professional or personal film/media projects.
• Experience in a Christian educational setting or ministry context.
• Knowledge of media literacy and the ability to teach students to critically evaluate media from a faith-based perspective.

Compensation & Details

• This is a contract/adjunct position for the 2026–2027 school year (August–May).
• Teaching schedule: Tuesdays (10:25 AM – 3:00 PM) and Wednesdays (3:40 – 5:10 PM).
• Compensation typically pays $30/teaching hour.
• This role does not include benefits; it is ideal for a working professional, freelancer, or part-time educator passionate about investing in the next generation of filmmakers.
