Job Summary:
The Risk Management Intern will be mentored by the Sr. Risk Management Consultant and Risk Management Consultants to assist in the identification, analysis, control and monitoring of the varied risks that face Vermont K-12 public schools. This includes understanding and assessing current claim trends through reviewing loss data and collaboration with the risk management team and the claims staff. The Risk Management Intern will assist the risk management team in designing member-specific solutions to address problem areas and serve as a main contact for detailing available resources to members.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Identifying risks through loss data, adjuster collaboration, and member contact to provide qualitative and quantitative analysis.
2. Respond to requests for support in a timely and efficient manner.
3. Provide playground inspections for member schools with risk management consultants. Perform risk assessments/safety audits and inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify potential hazards and compliance with safety regulations and standards with the risk management consultants.
4. Develop and maintain a variety of informational materials to support schools in their work; including but not limited to VSBIT website, electronic media, and paper resources.
5. Assist in the transition to a new software platform.
6. Implement a computer maintenance management system (CMMS) for the VSBIT building.
7. Any other projects, tasks, assignments, or duties as directed by the Manager of Risk Services
Required Skills and Attributes
1. Skilled in the use of technology, including MS Office and industry-related software/ applications.
2. Must be meticulous, highly organized, and a problem solver.
3. Ability to work independently and under pressure to meet deadlines.
4. Ability to identify problems within systems and processes and help in correcting them.
5. Ability to work 20 hours per week to meet deadlines and handle periodic heavy work volume, and to work early mornings and evenings as needed
6. Ability to travel both locally and nationally
7. Effective written and verbal communication skills
8. Is trustworthy, caring, respectful, innovative, collaborative and fiscally responsible.
