We’re looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Paralegal/Legal Assistant to join our collaborative team and play a vital role in supporting impactful cases across multiple practice areas including business litigation, real estate, family law, insurance defense, wills & trusts, and more.

Position Summary

As a Paralegal, you will be an essential partner to our attorneys, providing high-level clerical, research, and organizational support. You’ll help prepare cases for success from initial client meetings through trial, ensuring smooth operations and outstanding service to our clients across the state.

What You’ll Do

• Collaborate directly with attorneys, clients, and other professionals on active cases
• Draft and review legal documents including pleadings, motions, affidavits, discovery requests, and court filings
• Conduct client and witness interviews and prepare concise, accurate summaries
• Perform legal research, investigations, and fact-checking
• Organize and manage case files, evidence, depositions, and trial materials
• Support attorneys during trial preparation and attend hearings or trials as needed
• Track billable hours and assist with overall case management

• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational abilities and meticulous attention to detail
• Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines
• High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies OR Bachelor’s degree in any field
• Paralegal certificate is a plus
• Prior legal or office experience is valued — we’re also happy to train motivated candidates ready to grow

Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift up to 15 pounds.

In accordance with South Dakota law (16-18-34.4), the following individuals are disqualified from serving as a legal assistant unless they receive special application and approval from the South Dakota Supreme Court:

• Any person convicted of a felony
• Any person disbarred or suspended from the practice of law in any jurisdiction
• Any person placed on medical inactive status under § 16-19-48 or 16-19-92
• Any person placed on temporary suspension from the practice of law under § 16-19-35.1
