Job Summary
An established Central Maryland law firm seeks a talented attorney to join our thriving tax controversy and tax litigation practice. We represent individuals and businesses in high-stakes, complex civil and criminal tax matters. The successful candidate must be thoroughly familiar with IRS administrative practice and procedure and federal tax litigation, including U.S. Tax Court and U.S. District Court. The attorney will immediately assume responsibility for a full case inventory.

Responsibilities

• Represent clients administratively before the IRS.
• Represent targets, subjects, and witnesses in administrative and grand jury criminal tax investigations.
• Resolve collection matters by negotiating Offers in Compromise, installment agreements, and currently not collectible status.
• Represent clients in IRS examination matters.
• Resolve employment tax issues, including Trust Fund Recovery Penalty investigations.
• File administrative appeals, including Collection Due Process, CAP, protests of proposed examination adjustments, TFRP assessments, penalty relief, and tax lien issues.
• Draft pleadings, motions, and memoranda. Take and defend depositions. Appear in court for hearings and trials.
• Communicate effectively with clients regarding case status and strategy.
• Manage case files efficiently to ensure all deadlines are met.
• Manage and review the work of other attorneys and staff.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree.
• Admission to the bar of any state or the District of Columbia.
• Proven experience in tax controversy and tax litigation.
• In-depth understanding of how the IRS is structured and operates.
• Ability to manage attorneys and staff.
• Strong legal research and writings skills.
• Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
